What pleased me most about this nifty little film was the work of ERIC BANA, one terrific dude and actor in the part of Henry VIII. For once, it seems, the movies get it right as it is said Henry was quite the looker when young!
Saw it in class and wasn't that excited about it... I usually don't like movies setup in the past (medieval, renaissance...) But it was ok, really not the best. But it was an interesting plot and good acting. It's worth watching, but it won't kill ya if you don't.
I'm flabbergasted... why would this movie average 7 1/2 when " The Duchess " rates 8 to 9... beats me... I'm no fan of Scarlett (the talent of Nathalie Portman is above any doubt, IMO) but she is an all time interpreter compared to poor Kiera, IMO, once again. And the plot is much more elaborated. I'd love someone to give me their opinion about this. PS : I'm not talking about some heinous comments but about some constructive thinking. Thanks.
I loved this movie so much, the instant it was out on dvd I bought it. Keep in mind, not everything in it is exactly like the book nor is it 100% historically accurate. Definitely wonderful entertainment!
Not a bad movie at all. It was a bit slow at times but rather well played out overall. I'm not a big fan of Scarlett Johansson but I didn't hold that against the movie. Eric Bana played a good King Henry and the rest of the cast faired rather well. The costumes were excellent and as a period piece, it seemed honest enough although it's still a Hollywood film and liberties are often taken.
I am a sucker for historical pics. I just love them... well they are well done and well acted, of course! It took me a long time to see this one, mostly because of the cast. I just did not think that Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson could pull it off. I figured that Eric Bana could. Well, I was wrong about Portman and Johansson, as they were surprisingly very good and convincing. Bana was exactly as I expected, spot on for the most part! The story was very well drawn out. For history buffs and fans of The Tudors, don't miss this one. It's a great movie and can lead to some interesting debate about what really happened! I'm giving this one a solid 8/10.
