Famous for its all-natural personal care items, Burt's Bees has turned eco-friendly into big business -- but while the brand is a household name worldwide, little is known about the eccentric man whose bearded face still graces many of its labels. In Burt's Buzz, documentarian Jody Shapiro takes us into the backwoods of Maine, where Burt's Bees co-founder Burt Shavitz lives in a renovated turkey coop with no running water as he has since the 1970s, long since having sold off his shares in the company he helped create yet still contractually required to promote the brand all over the world. Both a fascinating character portrait of the wise, wry and unflappable Shavitz and a penetrating study of the often fraught relationship between business interests and personal values, Burt's Buzz is a witty and thoughtful rumination on the sometimes unpredictable consequences of being a living icon.
