An all too powerful and poignant upswing in the films of Douglas Sirk with Robert Stack and Dorothy Malone doing their best to keep things at their basest, while Rock and Bacall can be said to be the epitome of virtue in this melodramatic, totally enjoyable film of the very rich and those who stand by them. A Sirk film that must be seen. The colour large screen process is thrilling; the writing is as real and raw as it gets; the acting is wonderful with Stack an Oscar Nominee and Dorothy Malone taking home Oscar. Bacall and Hudson are excellent as well, Douglas Sirk outdoes himself with this 50's story of wealth and family ups and mostly downs.
