A scathingly funny movie occurring in a small, insignificant Italian town with much wine on its hands. And that's what the Germans want during this WWII comedy caper. Anna Magnani and Anthony Quinn are again paired to make real magic in a plot that is both witty and absurd at the same time. If one is Italian, the entire plot takes on new dimensions as we know exactly how small town Italy works. The romance side of the film is an added bonus. This is such an infectious film that one wishes would never end. It was Magnani's last American film.
