I was extremely excited for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It is my favourite of the Hunger Games books and I somewhat enjoyed the first movie. Well, I am super happy to say that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is not only an amazing book adaptation, but it is one of the best films this year. THE STORY: I honestly couldn't be happier with this adaptation. The story is detailed and well made, with moments that are extremely riveting. This is probably the movie I was most invested in this year. I totally forgot I was watching a movie. WRITING: This is where I had a small problem. It was mostly well written, except for some scenes. There were some scenes at the beginning of the film that had very cheesy writing. Overall though, it was very well written. ACTING: Jennifer Lawrence IS Katniss Everdeen. I couldn't see anybody else playing her character. Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth both did a decent job as their characters. The acting in this movie was pretty good. DIRECTING/CINEMATOGRAPHY: The directing in this movie is a landslide better than the first Hunger Games film. There is almost no shaky cam in this movie, and they sure got the tone right. The cinematography in this movie is also pretty damn beautiful. It looks much better than the first of the series. OVERALL: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is better than the first Hunger Games movie in every way possible. It is not only an amazing book adaptation, but it's one of my favourite movies of 2013. RATING: 9.75/10.
