    The Color Purple

A wonderful, moving film that absolutely must be experienced, if at all possible, on the big screen. This saga of Celie is almost too torturous to bear... but there are highs as well as the very low points in her life. Whoopie Goldberg's best performance of her career. She will never do anything finer. She took the Golden Globe Award that year, but Geraldine Page deservedly won Best Actress Oscar for the amazing "A Trip to Bountiful." There was quite a rage over this "black" film directed by Steven Spielberg as it was nominated for eleven (11) Oscars and failed to win even one award.
