A devastating Italian drama coming as the the neo-realist period of film was beginning in Italy. This Vittorio De Sica film from 1944 is heart breaking after we see the consequences on a young family after the desertion by wife and mother. The film was very controversial in its day. Nothing was held back in the form of screenplay and truth of an ugly situation. Vittorio De Sica was a master story teller and the plot moves forward effortlessly. Being a great actor himself, he got great performances from the young cast! The title " I Bambini Ci Guardano " is quite the deceptive title.
