I knew nothing about The Big Short going in. Other than its four Golden Globe nominations and the very basic storyline, I went into this film completely open-minded. Well, The Big Short is an excellent and very refreshing dramady!
The acting all around the table is astounding. Christian Bale gives a surprisingly AMAZING performance unlike anything he's ever done in the past. Steve Carrell delivers yet another impressive performance and definitely deserves his nomination. Ryan Gosling is constantly hilarious and Brad Pitt, for the little screen time he has, was really good. Finn Wittrock and John Magaro, two actors I've never even heard of, were also very impressive and likeable!
I loved the editing and style of The Big Short. It is quickly cut and very unique. There were also some creative decisions that had me laughing extremely hard. The writing is often hilarious and very interesting. I've haven't been so interested in stocks and business since The Wolf of Wall Street! The plot was also very enjoyable and constantly interesting.
My main problem with The Big Short is that it gets very confusing. If you don't know specific details and information about stocks and that area, you will most likely get very lost. The movie doesn't take much time to explain many things, so the dialogue gets confusing. This also had me lost in the story for a large chunk of the movie. The pace is also very messy. It's either very quick or brutally slow.
Overall, The Big Short is a very funny and interesting film with great editing and superb acting. Unfortunately, it is bogged down by confusing ideas that affect the viewer's experience. See it!
