Silent Retreat is a Canadian film thriller and possible horror film, but we never really discover that as a positive fact, but something all too sinister seems to lurk in this region where a young lady, Janey Andrews is sent to avoid jail time. A suspicious sort of doctor and his two creepy sons have made this a reprehensible place with rules no one could possibly follow. THIS BACKGROUND TO THE FILM IS NOTHING MORE THAN A STARTER AS WE BEGIN A JOURNEY THAT IS, WELL, AN UNKNOWN ENTITY! In little time, this tense feautre with some truly terrifying moments begin to take shape. This is not the usual nonsense of the supernatural with malevolent spirits lurking in every corner of a house once an innocent family takes possession, pardon the pun. This is more sophisticated material which has been chosen as an official selection in a number of Canadian and International Film Awards. One can certainly label this powerful thriller as something more than merely a thriller, this general descriptive word being applied to an overabundance of many films which are nothing but refuse, to use a more pleasant word than garbage!
