What a brilliant movie, based on fact about the stricken life of a young Irish lad. The movie by Jim Sheridan caused a sensation and turned out to be a real triumph for all concerned. The film was nominated in all the major Oscar categories in 1989 and the world saw the extraordinary work of Daniel Day Lewis playing disabled and breaking our hearts. The win of Day-Lewis was particularly outstanding as the male competition that year was formidable including Tom Cruise's best work in film: 'Born on the 4th of July'. Brenda Fricker as the mother really pulled off an upset victory as she took the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. The film is so touching and genuine as to break your heart. One can equate it to Eddy Redmayne's Oscar Win for 'The Theory of Everything'. This is one of those must see films. A humanity shines forth that makes the world exhilarating despite the suffering and pain.
