    Mrs. Miniver

Mrs. Miniver which won the Best Film Oscar of 1942, Best Director of the year and saw Greer Garson sweep to the Best Actress Oscar podium is a film which in its day was a monster hit as it dealt with the coping of ordinary people during the time of WW II. It was a morality booster. That can plainly be seen in watching this very long film. Seeing it in 2016, however, it seems overly sentimentalized with a screen play which is creaky at best. The performances are fine, but it tries much too hard to hammer home its obvious message. It has not withstood the test of time like other films of the era or even earlier.
