Perhaps it can pass as good for it's time but watching it was a complete waste of time.

You aren't old enough yet and therefore haven't a frame of reference large enough to really apreciate this classic. Your day and age is but a tiny fraction of modern culture and cinematography.
It really has nothing to do with age, since I am 16 and I love this movie. It is more to do with understanding; age and understanding are uniquely subjective for everyone... You can be old and foolish, as well as young and wise... Understanding is not a predictable entity. Unfortunately the original commentator did not prove this, but to say that every person of a young age lacks the perspective to be able to appreciate and love something great like 'Metropolis' is indeed not recognizing the capacities of many young people to understand aged concepts, films, or other works.
You defended your peers in fine style. Great! Don't you want to give us an opinion on the film itself? Looking forward to reading it.
