This is such a gift as family entertainment on so many levels. Of course, it's a sequel of sorts to the Lassie dynasty with Roddy McDowell again in the lead role as his family falls on hard times. The unthinkable solution becomes a reality. The film touches such an emotional chord from start to finish that one might need a tissue or two. The supporting cast of great character actors is of such depth it's hard to fathom. Donald Crisp, The miraculous Dame Mae Whitty, Elsa Lanchester, Edmund Gwenn, Nigel Bruce and even youngster Elizabeth Taylor who would form a lifelong friendship with McDowell. Woe! Pictures wove real, heart-wrenching stories in days of yore unlike all the garbage we get today made only to rake in the big bucks.
