Once again it's a case of Bogie being in the right place at the wrong time. Bogie makes the trek down to Key Largo to visit the family of his late war buddy. The family runs the Largo Hotel which is closed for the season but there seems to be a bunch of mobsters staying there. The gang is lead by the notorious Johnny Rocco who had been deported from the States several years earlier for being an undesirable alien. Rocco likes to brag about how tough he is and what a big shot he used to be to his captive audience. Just to prove he's a tough guy he passes a gun to Bogie and challenges him to a shootout. The gun of course is unloaded but Bogie doesn't know that and decides not to shoot him and tosses the gun onto a chair. A local cop who has been captured by the gang grabs the empty gun and Rocco shoots him dead. The bad guys are awaiting some fellow crooks to come up from Miami to pick up some counterfeit money. However, while they are waiting, a hurricane blows in and Rocco shows his true colors (yellow). He is absolutely terrified by the storm. He paces up and down with sweat beading down his brow while his captives torment him with stories of past storms. When the storm passes the Miami crooks show up and the business transaction is made. Rocco and his henchmen now prepare to leave but the boat they came in has taken off and left them. They shanghai Bogie to pilot the hotel's boat to Cuba. Of course this is a big mistake on the bad guys part. They should have known better than to send only five crooks on a boat with one Humphery Bogart.
