A study of what it means to be a good person in a cruel world. With this film, Bresson began to experiment with the acting and directing style that he became famous for in his later films like Balthazar and Pickpocket. The priest arrives at a small village and is not-exactly-welcomed by the local residents. Can he teach them about faith and morality? Or will the pettiness and selfishness of the community consume the innocent priest?
