Earth to Echo

Earth To Echo follows three kids as they try to help a lost alien find its ship. From its trailers and advertisement, this looked like a mix of Super 8, E.T. and The Goonies. Seems like a perfect mix, right? Well, not entirely. Earth To Echo feels like a rip-off of all of these movies in terms of plot. I'm not kidding, the movie was incredibly predictable because it basically played out exactly like E.T. However, I'm not saying it didn't do it well. The best part of this movie is easily the relationship between these kids. It seemed fairly real and the kids were all actually good actors. That being said, the worst part about this film is the unrealistic dialogue between the kids. Middle-school students would never speak like the kids speak in this movie. I understand that they needed to keep this movie G-rated, but they could have thrown in some realistic things that kids would say if their parents weren't there. The found-footage aspect was actually very well handled and had some very unique aspects. The special effects were very well done and the musical score was fantastic! Echo, the alien, wasn't in the movie that much and I would have liked to see more of him. The pace is very fast and the film immediately gets into the story from the very beginning. I also enjoyed the ending a lot. Overall, Earth To Echo is a predictable yet very fun family film that has great chemistry and a familiar story. See it with your family. RATING: 7.25/10.
