I'll be honest, I was not really looking foreword to seeing Draft Day. It holds mediocre reviews and the premise didn't look entirely interesting. If anything, I expected this to be a boring, cheesy and stupid drama. But no, it turns out that Draft Day is a very fun and surprisingly thrilling movie that baffled my expectations. That being said, it still had many problems. The acting was mostly good. Kevin Costner does an okay job as his role. The problem is, the character doesn't emote much and holds a straight face for most of the movie. Chadwick Boseman does another excellent job and Jennifer Garner does just fine. The characters weren't entirely interesting though. The story was actually very well handled and made the movie quite entertaining. There were some twists taken that I didn't see coming and there were a few times where I was surprised at the direction the movie was going. However, the family and romance parts of the story were extremely cheesy and seemed as though they were hammered into the movie. The dialogue was very well written for about 3/4 of the movie. The only minor problems were the first 1/4. There was some lines that were just plain awful. The one thing I could say was the absolute highlight of this movie is something I don't really touch on in my reviews. The editing was absolutely brilliant and made the dialogue scenes much more interesting. OVERALL: Draft Day, though not perfect, is a very entertaining and fun sports film that is sure to entertain football fans and people who know about the sport.
