Being a big fan of the Rocky franchise, I was very excited for Creed. The trailers were fabulous and I really love Ryan Coogler's first picture: Fruitvale Station. I was also very curious to see where the franchise would go after Rocky Balboa (which I haven't seen) Well, Creed was utterly incredible, making it one of the biggest surprises of 2015!
Michael B. Jordan delivers yet another fantastic performance as Adonis Creed. He is so likeable and relatable, and his emotional range is huge. The rest of the supporting cast work well, including the clichéd British villain. However, Sylvester Stallone is the real star here. Just when you thought he had become a parody of himself, he comes and gives a possibly Oscar worthy performance as Rocky Balboa!
Though the plot of Creed is your cliché boxing movie plot, it actually works in its favour! I won't reveal anything, but some moments almost had me tearing up. The fighting scenes were incredibly filmed, with many long-takes that were expertly directed. The finale of the movie also had my heart-pounding like no other film has done so far this year!
The editing, cinematography and writing were all excellent, with many memorable moments. The musical score also lives up to the Rocky standard!
Overall, Creed was a huge surprise! It had excellent acting, fantastic fighting sequences and a very intriguing story. See it!
