Stephen King might have had some objections to the way his book was turned into a movie, but anyone should get that a movie can't be the equivalent of a book. They are two totally separate mediums. This said, the original CARRIE had, first off, two brilliant stars Sissy Spacek and the wonderful Piper Laurie both of whom received Oscar Nominations for their roles as daughter and mother. So right off, the acting makes for an acceptable horror movie. One believes it! The teens from Travolta and company are all scum bags who get what they richly deserve. The supernatural is so strong in this film that I don't even like calling it a horror movie. Carrie is possessed by supernatural powers as her mother is by her all-consuming faith/religion. Great twists and turns and an unbelievable climax! THIS CARRIE MUST BE SEEN, NOT THE NEW VERSION WITH CHLOE GRACE M.
