Meryl Streep acts up a storm in this her 8th Oscar Nominated Performance. A Cry in the Dark is the true story of an Australian, 7th Adventists Church family who decide to go on a camping trip. What ensues is pretty horrific, the core of the entire film. Streep has the Aussie accent down brilliantly. Along with this goes a rather cold, detached personality which makes media and people think she has done something wrong and is guilty. It is a feature that seems to wage war on ONE woman and what happened to her infant baby. The Fred Schipisi film is shot very close to documentary style film and thus make the events all the more important and cogent for us. Though all in the cast are uniformly good, the entire flick belongs to Ms Streep and her brilliant histrionics.
