This is not History, in the real battle, historians in general (not Herodotus) agree, that the Persian army was composed of many different nations including all races of man, even Greekes and Macedonians, numbering between 750 thousand to a million, including Warriors, and serfes/ slaves, and the Spartan army, or should I say, the army commanded by the king of sparta had 4 to 5 thousand greeks, from a few greek city states, not only Spartans, the Spartans were about 1 thousand and of those 300 were spartan warriors and the rest serfes and Helots (Slaves).. the movie was based not in history, but on a commic book, but it could convey what the actual battle might have looked like... great movie!!!

Actually... what your speaking off... is actual Facts from history itself... it was proven that Spartan... were very selective physically and had their entire life based on combat... this is what makes this movie so incredible and Historically true at some points...

I have not seen the film yet but have read my history. Were you asleep in history class? This is what actually happened - the Spartans actually did this in their society - no one is saying it's right - but what did u expect when you bought a ticket to this film? a hollywood love story? I think you should have gone to Indigo and checked out the comic book rendition b4 you saw the film. You have to take it with a grain of salt - the point of the film is the story of great odds and perserverence - which in those days is exemplified by these events - come on! 300 guys doing it alone!!! think about it!

Hate to tell you, but thats history. The film is based on the Battle of Thermopylae and the Spartan people, and in ancient times thats exactly what happened to children born with defects, etc. It's barbaric, but you can't take shots at the film because of it. Same goes for the ideals of Spartans in the film. Its historical fact. Read more, then watch again, you'll find the film actually could have gone much farther and didn't.

Key theme? The key theme was the historical battle of Thermopylae, which was a fight for the freedom of Sparta and ultimately of all Greece. A little knowledge of history would be nice before making dumb comments.

It maybe sad, but that was the way of Spartan culture... historically accurate. Spartans where not a fun loving people, they where soldiers, breed to be soldiers. Life is worthless / killing = glory bit, sad but true as well from the time of the written word.

This movie was based on the Battle of Thermopylae, they turned it up a notch or two, but it actually happened. However savage the Spartan's ways were, without them, arguably, there wouldn't be democracy. Rate the movie as a movie, not on your idealistic notions about violence and war.

It is cleary going to be very a violent movie from the previews on TV so what I am wondering is what were you expecting? I bet you are one of those people that think video games cause violence as well. Totally ridiculous as I have a few friends that like their violent games and are not violent at all. Totally agree, with the violence part, the visuals were nice but I was very bored... very very bored to the point I had no interest in their dramatic dialogue, this move will go down as fuel for violence, eye candy for women and some men... yuck.

The bottom line is that it's just a movie to make warner brothers richer. However it has some political purpose as well. And that is to make persians look uncivilized. And the reason for that is the Bush administration tried everything to make more allies to be able to attack Iran and get their oils. But they didn't succeeded so they are trying to use other methods such as humilating persians in the eyes of the world to make their job of raising the world against iran easier. But they will never succeed.

Hey buddy, you must obviously be middle eastern to not appreciate the story. It was an outstanding story and I'm not just saying this because I'm greek, I'm saying this because its true. Its worth watching in the theatre even if one damn ticket cost 15 bucks. Think about it , 300 spartan warriors stood up to millions of middle eastern warriors. Defended what was there's in the end Greece is still a glorious country, mother of philosy, mathematics, DEMOCRACY so on and so forth. Not to be cocky but its ones honour to defend their country. The two people who replied to your post don't know their history very well. The movie is extremely accurate in its depiction of the overall events. The only inaccuracies are in the details, and who cares? This is a dramatic action movie, not a documentary.

The battle was REAL. It happened. I was incredulous until researching some of the content. There will always be some theatrical license in any movie. Actually some of the lines in the movie were actually taken from history which surprised me. I.e. The response the Spartan king said about the eminent "rain of arrows". Or the premise that Spartans discarded weak babies. Check, search out other sources on the Internet to challenge movie content. [...]

I agree that this is a great movie but it is not a true story, well the 300 spartan battle thing is and the thermopyle was real but the events are not real. I've researched the spartans and they died on a hill in the center of thermopylse valley and it all happened in one day. The movie is good bu it doesnt not follow the true story very accurately.
