Probably one of the worst movies I have seen in the past 2 years. A serious historical event is turned into an immature, s&m, film for teenagers. I do not even know if I would let one of my children see it. If this is the best they can do... with history, it defies explanation.

I love Frank Miller's graphic novels. Sin City was an amazing piece artwork brilliantly made into a high quality movie. 300 has certainly gave it some competition. Overall an excellent movie, but the starting kinda went too fast, they should have explained some more thing. I also agree with everyone that the characters die too fast. Excellent movie though, a must see for everyone.

A very good movie with an excellent narration. To be seen.

Its inspired by a event, it's not supposed to be 100% historically accurate. It wouldn't be as cool if it was. Figure it out.

The best movie yet. The fight scenes were done with such care... you feel as though you're in there with them. A MUST see.

The Best Movie Ever Stop reading reviews and go watch it. Due note the fact that the movie is based off of Frank Miller's graphic novel and not a directly based of history. So people... Get a grip. Anyone who enjoys good movies will have a hard time finding something bad.

This movie kept me right on the edge of my seat! There wasn't a second where I was board. there was always a battle or someone losing there head! The way the colors are in the movie it makes it seem dreamlike which adds a cool effect that we don't see in many movies.

Awesome!!! awesome!!! awesome!!! single handedly the best movie I have seen in a long time! non-stop action and amazing special effects... I will go again while it's in theaters... a new classic has been released for 2007!
| 10/10 | j_v_lock@ - 2 reviews 11.3.2007 - age: 26-35 |
The movie was fantastic, I hope all of Frank's work is made into a brilliant movie like this... By the way, this movie was not based on real events, it was based on a graphic novel by Frank Miller which was inspired and based (with artistic license) on the battle of Thermopylae. If your looking for a history lesson and you go to this movie than you are a fool, on the other hand, if you are looking to be entertained than you may be brilliant. Go see this movie, everybody's doing it.

Whoever it was that said the hunchback didn't add anything to the plot... were you watching the movie? He was the direct cause of the spartans death, he lead them to the secret passage which in turn caused them to be overrun... Way to pay attention. Anyway, great movie, Go see it [...]

What you expect from a Sin Citry creator. Action was intense. Although the blood effects were exaggerated but then again it's just part of the type of film. Worth seeing. Although don't bring you twelve year old brother. :P.

I totally loved Sin City. One of the few movies that I actually rewatched immediately with commentary (others were Donnie Darko, Eternal Sunshine, I (3 Huckabees, Blade Runner) I am also a Frank Miller fan so I went in with high expectations and for the most part was not let down. Visually the lighting and textured colorization is incredible. The storyline is pretty straight forward but it's pretty enough not to matter. I recommend this movie.

This has to clearly be the best movie I have ever seen... Everyone in the theater was going nuts especially in those fighting scenes... This movie is a masterpiece and it stays true to historical facts... unlike other past movies... if you know what I meen... I am going to see it a second time... This time in imax... lol.

| 10/10 | aviksarkar@ - 2 reviews 11.3.2007 - age: 18-25 |
A good movie, some parts were so unrealistic, a movie that was actually more fact based on this great battle that actually happened would of been nice. It's a good movie if you don't know of the battle, but it's kind of unrealistic if you actually thought it was going to have anything to do with real life. All in all a good movie, but it bastardizes the true story.

This movie was truly beautiful. Every scene was masterfully composed -- I wanted to eat the wheat off the screen. Although the movie was not "truthful," that was not the point. If you want truth, go consult a textbook. As for entertainment, I have yet to see a better ancient historical film.

None stop action with great effects. Seen it 2 times and it never gets old.
| 10/10 | kseichter@ - first review 11.3.2007 - age: 13-17 |
Solid action flick. As far as historical authenticity, it isn't a viable complaint. Both cultures were highly stylized in this depiction, which only adds to the exotic, alien quality the Greeks no doubt saw in the Persians. Persia was vast, encompassing nearly twice as much landmass as Rome at its peak. It would have included countless cultures, innumerable ethnic and tribal groups. I thought the movie showed this well. For a comic book... Not like Gladiator had anything to do with history, or even an accurate portrayal of the Roman Emperor's actual "job". Gladiator isn't really comparable, though. This is strictly an action flick. The violence does at times get redundant, and sometimes the slow motion is just... silly, but all in all, this is a worthy "historical" epic. You want authenticity, read "Gates of Fire". For ripping good action, 300 wins.

A disappointing interpretation of history! The special effects are not enough to save this movie which could have been a true classic but...
| 5/10 | angberr@ - 110 reviews 11.3.2007 - age: 36-49 - One reply |
Great movie, and for all those historians, obliviously the movie will never follow the exact path of history book ( and please read up on the actually history before you comment on how historically untrue it is) Creativity is a factor here; it managed to keep the story historically sound yet adding new elements of thrill into the movie. As far as effects go," awesome" effects, yet I agree some slight instances could have done better, for the average movie goer the differences are too subtle (you will probably not even notice it because of all the other distractions) This is definitely a movie for a sword swinger fan. Great depiction of battle formation on both greek and persian sides. Bottome line is this: great movie and must see, keep in mind this is visual arts and is not trying to prove anything historically or otherwise.

What a combination of fact, inspired fiction and cinematic effects. Above all - history, drama, poetry and the beauty of the human form and spirit, this should be up for some awards... do not miss this one! the battle was done for democracy... a far, far cry from what our contemporary war makers may claim today!

300 is a movie which is incredibly well made and contained amazing acting, sound recordings; which makes it a very powerful film overall. If you watch this movie, it is not a waste of money by any means and I would recommend it to anybody who loves action movies as it is one of the best action movies I have seen in recent years.

For anyone who said this is a guy film, just the opposite. This movie was full of the best male bodies I have ever seen. As for the rest of the movie I would have to say that it was one of the best movies I have ever seen. Great casting and super effects. I thought Gerard Butler was the best actor they could have chosen for this movie. Unlike Alexander where they casted Colin Farrell who was awful! Go SEE IT.

300 is the greatest movie I ever seen except the little [...] in it about persian's magic, you should go see that movie. If they were 300 greek they could won the war... I really liked that movie and every friend of mine liked it:) except it would be better if they would show us what happens in the end.

I think you've all read enough about the Movie to know that the Cinematography and special effect are second to none, and the acting is incredible. I hear alot of complaints about story line and character development. I personally found it very refreshing to see a movie that didn't have. A hero, a love story, a middle of the movie plot changing event and the typical Hollywood ending. As far as character's go. Well the Spartans were embodied perfectly, they weren't out to be Hero's or Epic Leaders. They were simply soldiers. I think the way they portrayed them from King to Soldier was synonymous with what the Spartans were. Great Movie, the battle scenes are unlike anything I have ever seen. What a movie. I say stop trying to hard to be an Oscar calibur movie critic and enjoy the movie. We already have one John Moore.

| 9/10 | tommy_stawowski@ - first review 11.3.2007 - age: 18-25 |
Not a masterpiece of eloqution, but a masterpiece of the almost forgotten male instinct of PROTECT THE GROUP and PROTECT YOUR WOMAN. Men who are frustrated at not being able to even belt a twit who deserves it will love this movie. Women who think violence in any form is "inappropriate" will go out and make even more laws against even raising your voice at someone. The stylized art of Miller comes through excellently, and goes beyond impressive eye-candy into the realm of actual art, despite the ludicrous concept of a Hoplite without body armor. [...] Anyone who understands that it is entirely natural for men to fight will probably love it.

This was the single greatest movie I have ever seen in my life. I feel especially sorry for the people who cannot see past the historical flaws and just watch the movie, it's not supposed to be historically accurate its supposed to be an action.

Well first off I thought sin city was way better. The fight scenes were big time good but thats all there was to this one not to mention I found alot of similarity's to lord of the rings stile.

WoW! the few (maybe first? ) movies I've rated a "10". From the first moment 300 began to the very end, my breath was taken away! The cinematography was amazing, the costuming lovely, but OMG, the fight scenes! Yes, the movie was filled with much testosterone, but I thought all the characters were quite well rounded out, to balance with the major mind-blowing fight scenes! There was 'fluidity' with the gore, and it a primal way, was almost beautiful, like an intricate dance of death... You definitely must see this on the big screen!

Awe struck at action scenes and cinematography, filled with numerous historical facts except maybe the hunchback, but what it may lack in historical relevance it makes up for in the action scenes. Also the added hint of mysticism portrayed by the "Persian" army arouses the imagination. definite Must See Hands Down.

Unbelievable movie. For all the people who gave this movie a bad rating, you should have gone to see Wild Hogs instead because you definitely don't like action movies. This is a ground breaking movie and was created with such vision. Forgot technical historical crap, movie making genius!

Some people don't realize that the persian army was so vast that of course there were black people in the army, also to the south of persia or "Iran" the people are very dark. So don't say [...]things like aryan race, the aryan race did not even exist at that time.
