Great picture, but the story is not as good as expected.

I think the moral of the story is absolutely crushed by damaging the character of both ancient civilizations (ie. the Greeks and Persians) Unfortunately the movie sends the wrong image of ancient civilizations and illustrates them as ruthless, bloodsheder barbarians who could do noting more than killing each other. Both Greeks and Persians are known to have fought with dignity; Persians were known to deal with the enemy with honor, even with the dead (contrary to what the movie tried to illustrate) Outrageous misrepresentation.

Work of Art, best movie of all time. Not To gory, and not under gory, amazing story historically, and wonderfully re-told.

I Knew this movie was gonna be good, but I was not prepared for this! The movie was absolutley brilliant, lots of gore... pretty good sex scene... and more gore. The movie had me sounding like Lil Jon everytime someone got kill "WHAttt!!!" The cinematography gave a comic book effect... and it has some parts i diddnt see coming. No matter how many movie you watch this is like none other. My 3 friends i went with wanted to see ghost rider. After the movie was done they were all screaming F**K GHOST RIDER. Real talk, a must see.

Why are so many people upset that persians, who dominated many other nations of the world at the zenith of their power, could be gay or black? I've known many people from "Persia" that are gay and I see it as a non issue. I once had a Black Persian cat whose sexuality was questionable, he was also violent and prone to howling in a very deep and distorted voice, somewhat like Xerxes. So all in all it made sense to me in a Graphic novel kind of way, where the thick blood splatters and the hero gives cheesy speeches. And everyones ethnicity is exaggerated, and stereotypes are pushed over the top. Take it for what it is.

This movie was well made... well directed... and Very gory. Some people may not believe that the historical accuracy's were correct but it was rather on the head from a Spartans perspective. They did live a lifestyle of War and It was Crazy (read your history books) However the Numbers and persian army was well... Exaggerated. Of course it is a action movie not a Documentary so we should expect some exaggeration. Beyond that, the CGI was Awesome and i Loved how the Zack Snyder tried to keep the Comic book style definitely a good movie for the Guys night out.
| 8/10 | diamond_j7@ - 4 reviews 16.3.2007 - age: 18-25 |
Obviously biased and historically inaccurate. What bothered me the most was the continuous attempt at depicting Persian fighters as barbarians who couldn't even speak properly. Quite an unfair representation of a civilization that gave culture, science, and art to the world. Of course no historical evidence can stop a movie director from sabotaging the "bad guys"!

This movie is simply a must see, please remember that this movie is based on a comic book. If you are looking for a historical lesson please watch the History Channel. What I can away from this is beautiful cinematography and actors who brought INTENSITY which was amazing. I've seen many movies and thoroughly enjoyed watching this... To end it off... SPARTANS!!!

It is the most offensive, unrealistic and absurd movie human being can produce. It is a good record for you.
| 1/10 | aminnus@ - first review 16.3.2007 - age: 36-49 |
This is a good movie; and people who gave this a score below 5 are people who are persians or partly. And it's not supposed to be acurate history-wise. That's why it's called a movie; not a documentary. [...]

Oustanding overall plot and nice change to all the simple clear cut black and white war movie types.

Despite the orientalism and historical inaccuracies, the story and roles played by both sides in the movie do not relate to any obvious parallels today. In other words, this movie should not inspire uncritical American audiences to support a new war in Iran. Rather, this film is to be enjoyed for what it is, a violent thriller with stunning special effects where the good guys die fighting for meaning and for their own interpretation of what is right. You don't see that kind of sacrifice today - especially by our leaders. Preferably to be watched in an IMAX theatre.

I really enjoyed this movie and how real it was in comparison to the history of ancient Spartan Culture and the battle itself. Aside from the monsters, it was masterfully done and captured the intense warrior society the Spartans had during that time. They must have been quite focussed on their war machine.

Less sex then Sin City, more action. Less story then Sin City, more blood. Less prejudice imagery, more machoism. It's a fun 2 hours to watch some good old blood, gore, and rampage. Something about this movie makes you feel freaking crazy. The battle scenes, and music, and just the way it looks. The stylistic film looks like every shot was a painting. It's a good 2 hours to watch. Go see it.

300 truly embodies the warrior spirit. This is a non-stop flick that must be seen on the big screen. Take your children and you're probably a bad parent.

Brilliant, pure and utter brilliant. Movies like this only come along once every few years. Graphically 300 is stunning! The story was great, Spartans = Greatness. Go and see this movie right now, you owe it to yourself.

Great Cinematography! The special effects rocked too! I enjoyed the battle scenes and found myself gripping to my seat. I wished the movie went on longer. It was gruesome at times but it would not have been the same if they toned it down. The whole move was filmed in a dream like manner.

The violence is beautiful. Imagery is simply excellent! Choreography of fight scenes is some of the best I’ve seen. Don’t worry about the historical inaccuracies, I am a history teacher and I loved the film!

Great Music! Great Acting! Stunning visuals! Great story overall! If you love bog battles and you dont mind blood and limbs flying around. This movie is for you. I'm planning on going back to see it in Imax to get the full experience out of it. I'd give it 13.5 Stars out of 13.5! :P.

Awesome battle corrigraph, good graphics, nice camera play with battle scenes, and good side story. Lack of main story, but understandable because it's suppose to be about the start of the war. I give it a 10/10.
| 10/10 | gohansgirl66@ - first review 16.3.2007 - age: 18-25 |
Historically accurate from the battle tactics of the Spartans... though the Spartans were fully supported by the Greeks, and the Persians were not freaks, like they were portrayed. I found it laughable, but it also made me angry.
| 7/10 | whatups@ - first review 16.3.2007 - age: 26-35 |
Beautifully filmed, amazing cinematography, the queen's character is especially poignant. The men look fantastic in their outfits (yum!) and the battles are stunningly choreographed. There's even a little gratuitous T&A for the guys. My 15yr old son absolutely loved it and i was surprised to find I really enjoyed it as well! All in all, definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

I have to say I was dreading seeing this movie--green screen, yuck! A bunch of men killing each other, who cares! BUT, this movie is well put together. Yeah, the fight scenes became tedious and repetitive, and some of the green screen stuff was a little flat and awkward, but basically this is a very good transfer of a comic to screen. OF COURSE, it's not historically accurate; honestly, how could it be, but, if we are relating a story that with time seems more myth than reality, I think this picture works. I really liked the artistic direction- kudos to the hair, make-up and wardrobe team who were the ones who had to bust their humps to put something workable in front of that green screen!

The acting was good, the cinematography and fx were amazing, and the fight sequences and choreography were spellbinding. I just found I yearned for more storyline, more script. I think Troy, Kingdom of Heaven and King Arthur were superior films as they had everything. I felt far more for the characters because there was more to them. Great musculature can only entertain you for so long... the heart and soul of this film were so very, very weak. Too bad, since it had such possibilities.

I dont know much about mythical spartan history but I guess it portrays it well, it's pretty humorous and the best part about it was the way it was filmed.

I work with the Greek and he said it was the worst movie he ever saw. Very poor character development, weak storyline, historically incorrect, viewer feels nothing once the Persians and Greeks start dying in the battle. It is almost like sheep. The movie does not do justice to either Persians or the Greek and this important ancient battle. There is nothing more to this movie than computer animation (CGI) and even if you're into that I would wait for dvd to come out. Many of us cannot be entertained based purely on animation, we expect the story as well. The fact that the whole movie was shot in 60 days in Montreal tells a lot about the quality. Avoid disappointment and go see something else with more value..

Words just can't describe how great this movie is. Yeah it's not entirely historically accurate, but the basics are there. The cgi is amazing and truly brings this epic to life. Just makes you wanna cry out "SPARTA!!".

Absolutely gorgeous with the visual effects! Not as much gore as was expected, which was good. Amazing gladiator fighting scenes. Of course, such buff bodies running around in skimpy outfits didn't hurt either!
