The special effects were good. But the acting and the characters were just flat - there was no substance and no real plot line. There were also inconsistencies - if the aliens had been studying humans for so long - then why were they not aware of the bacteria on our planet? It doesn't wash. Very disappointing for a Spielberg film - usually he's good - but not this time around.
