This was quite a story I tell ya but must say enjoyed it in a twisted way. Worth my time for sure.

The film is ultimate Southern Gothic. Ultimately it is Matthew McConaughey's performance that steals the film. It's probably one of his best performances in years. The supporting cast holds their own to which makes it quiet well rounded in the acting department. The movie is slow to build up but the ultimate payoff is worth it and it might make you think twice about your favourite fast food chain. There are some brutal, graphic violence and disturbing sex scenes so be prepared.

Amazing actors, but it just doesn't work sadly.

It was a good movie, Indy feel. As some of the other posts said there is quite a bit of nudity. Almost more than needed. Seemed a little predictable but not unless you watch these movies often.

This movie is definitely not for everyone - it was extremely violent and extremely disturbing - a very dark comedy for sure. Did I like it? I'm not sure. I appreciated it. I'm glad I saw it, but I don't want to see it again. I thought it was a unique story and really great acting. And I don't eat much KFC, but I'm pretty sure I won't be eating it again any time soon.

Matthew McConaughey is absolutely brilliant. This movie is so rivoting it had me on the edge of my chair constantly. Absolutely loved it. Not for the faint of heart.

I just loved that film! One of the funniest films I've seen in a long time, I guess you could call it a dark comedy. ;) The actors were all amazing. The dialogues were rich in dumbness and twisted thoughts. I didn't feel there was that much nudity and sex, I could have taken much more. The only downside is the final ending, which doesn't make much sense even though the end scene was going quite well until the film ends abruptly.

The film wasn't very good, but the performances were excellent throughout; however, they were white-trash characters, so, while the characters were well-acted, they are annoying to watch. It's worth seeing for the acting, and, if you like nudity, then this is for you. The story and ending could have been much better.

Two days later and it is still haunting me. Acting was top notch by most, especially McConaughey. Some disturbing scenes that were difficult to watch, I looked away a few times. I like the fact that a killer was portrayed as one should be, NOT to be liked instead of likable as in so many movies.

Great film from a good director. Might be a little disturbing for some (especially the final 20 minutes) but it's worth it.

Excellent, just excellent. I loved it. The story was very good. The actors excellent. Matthew McConaughy's best role ever. Juno Temple, just exraordinary! Emile Hirsch, Gina Gershon and Thomas Haden Church, all of them just amazing. Yes it's very violent and sometimes hard to watch, but excellent!

This movie surprised me. The actors are all good and McConaughey is just more than brilliant.

Terrible bloody violence and graphic sex scenes. I'll never feel the same about chicken drumsticks again.

"Look at Killer Joe gooo... Dancing with Marie oh o no! He don't act like he knows oh o yea... That she belongs to me!" These lyrics from the old 1960's hit record punch in the theme to this terrific portrait of a psychopath. Strong performances from Mathew McConaughey, Juno Temple and Gina Gershon. Not for the faint of heart or all you good folks living blissfully in the "Bible Belt" This film could definitely be termed psycho-noir so look out "Van Heflin" because Killer Joe's got your back!

Be warned this is not a movie for everyone. In fact you'd have to have a pretty sick sense of humor to tolerate the abundance of white trash sleaziness that permeates every frame of this film. So if making light of things like matricide is your cup of tea then by all means. That being said, the film has a power than cannot be denied and reminds me of how people can't turn away from a car wreck, it's just too awful not to see. The acting by all concerned is a tour-de-force. McConaughey is a revelation in the title role, as are both Thomas Haden Church and Emille Hirsch as the father and son who hire Joe to kill their ex wife/mother for the insurance money. Juno Temple as the virgin sister who catches Joe's eye and Gina Gershon as the stepmom also turn in riveting performances. It is not an easy film to watch, with at least one scene that ranks as one of the most shockingly uncomfortable in recent memory, yet it is also quite funny at times. A truly original, if seriously twisted, mosaic on the just plain awfulness of people.

It wasn't what I expected, I thought it would be an action comedy, it wasn't funny, there was some action tho but the ending was the biggest disappointment, I thought Dottie should of shot killer Joe and saved her brother.

What slow, painful, vulgar, for vulgar"s sake, arduous trip to nowhere. If not for a few great "bloodyings" and some good gunshots the movie would be a 2 at best. 5 because there is nothing on the chart that properly applies.

This movie is not for everyone's taste. But bravo for trying to do something different. I'm so tired of the usual Hollywood college course movie scripts. On another note, normally Matthew McConaughey's movies are a joke with embarrassing acting, but he surprised me as Killer Joe. One of the female reviews on Cinemaclock said the theatre was full of middle aged men and stuck her nose up at these men for attending this movie. But when I was at the movie it was about a 50/50 male/female ratio. Thank goodness we live in a free country.

I had no idea what this movie was about, but funny it is NOT!! This is as far out and violent as it gets. Funny, I went with my husband, but the theater was full of nothing but men... middle aged men... says a lot. Porn, violence, murder, if that is what you like go see it... I for one want my money back. Oh, I pick the next movie!!!

Not a movie for everybody. The starting scene really shapes what the viewer should expect, a view of Gina Gershon's "Bush" and that's what the whole movie looks like, a very in your face depiction of the adventures of a low income family and their quest to get some money. Is it good? Well if you judge a movie by its performances then Gina and Matthew really delivered on all aspects. Not that their roles will be relevant for academy awards nominations. Either way, if you don't mind explicit nudity, sexuality and violence then maybe you can appreciate this kind of movie. I did.

Was extremely weird at some points (people in the theater were probably uncomfortable with the content of several scenes) but overall an extremely entertaining film with some great twists. McConaughey is fantastic.

I loved this film, so twisted. I wouldn't be surprised if people walked out during certain scenes. This was one of my fav films at the Fantasia Film Festival.

Well that was different! I definitely liked this movie. Great ending with lots of moments of really weird humour (I have trouble considering this a comedy though) Make no mistake, you are going to be very uncomfortable in several scenes. Not John Waters-level uncomfortable, but you will not be feeling well. I am surprised by Matthew McConaughey's performance which was really strong. More than usual. Hayden Church is a blast as well. Overall, pretty rough film to watch but lots of fun in many different places.
