I think this is one of the best movies of all time and easily the best gangster movie ever. Such great details in this film that you don't see as much anymore - awesome story, music, cast, sets, and locations. The character development is excellent as well - the good guys and the bad guys are all somewhat complex.

Wow, this is probably the 5th time I watch this movie, and it is very good. Some action scenes are a bit lame, but still, the fact that people still watch this movie 40 years after it was made explains it all.

It's a classic based on the fact it was the first gangster movie to be made like this. It was gripping from start to finish.

What happens when writing, directing, acting, and all the other ingredients needed to make a movie fit together beautifully actually do so? You end up with the Godfather - a masterpiece.

This movie [...] owns. If there was every a gangsta flick that beats this one or the 2 that follow I've never seen or heard of it and Al Pacino does better in this film than he does as tony montana which is in my opinion his most defining role aside from his character in this saga michel corelion.

The Godfather is one of the greatest classics of all time, but is not one of the best pictures ever made! For those who are younger than 21 may not find this very entertaining, I am, but I knew what to expect. It is definitely very slow, and was excruciatingly painful to withstand at times. But as a younger man I guess I just didn’t understand. The development had an outstanding tone; it wasn’t full of violence though. I would say it’s just a Drama because there is a lot of blood (which in today’s standard is laughably fake, yet in that day, extremely realistic) in the end, which had several disturbing deaths. But whenever a person was shot, it took at least 20 bullets to kill somebody. When Don Clorleone was shot, he was shot about 15 times and still survived. But they really took their time in the build-up when Don was in the hospital. In this hour it showed a lot of understanding of each character. The last hour is the most important though, for the series it sets up the very next film. But one flaw was when Michael Clorleone shot the Police Officer. He shot him in the head, isn’t dead yet. Shoots him in the neck, blood everywhere. There he goes smashing his head on the table. That was unusually a noticeable flaw, yet everything else was great. It’s not really entertaining, but it’s enjoyable with a true sustained pace throughout the entire film. It had great direction, good writing, good acting, and overall a top notch movie. Despite all it’s flaws, it’s excellent.

Simply put the greatest motion picture of all time. Marlon Brando shows why he is classified the greatest actor ever and the rest of the cast is mind blowingly above great as well. A 10 does not do this movie justice, it should be a 20.

They just don't make movies like this anymore. I can see how someone COULD be bored with the movie, but you still can't deny the quality of the characterization and the incredible, memorable, legendary acting. Just look at the Oscar nominations.

Anyone who dislikes this movie knows nothing about cinema. The script is so incredibly well layered and complex, weaving complex themes and meanings into a a solid narrative. Everytime you watch it you pick up new details and meanings in the dialogue. The characters are complex, and how Coppola and Mario are able to humazie cold blooded killers is beyond me. Every scene is dark and tastful and painted like a portrait. The acting is fantastic, and the soundtrack is mind-blowing. What a film, gets better every time you watch it.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
The best way to describe The Godfather is flawless in every way that a movie can be flawed. It exceeds expectations of what should be put into a movie from everyone involved. Coppola directs The Godfather with obsessive precision. Every shot is shown in its own way for a reason, and if something is put into place, it has a purpose. The cinematography for such a small-scale story is breathtaking. The shots of small, old-style Sicily villages and rain-soaked, film noir-ish New York streets are immensely innovative for the budget that Coppola was provided. Mario Puzo, the author of the novel that this is based on, assisted Coppola in the writing of the remarkably original screenplay. The movie opens with an Italian man, quivering with rage, telling the always brilliant Marlon Brando how his daughter was recently beaten within an inch of her life and the attacker got away with barely any punishment. I want justice, he says fiercely. We know immediately that what will be dished out will be far from justice. We know that Brando (his character is named Don Vito) is heading some sort of crime organization before any mention of it is given. The term Mafia is never used once in the film, because the theme is so clear without it. Marlon Brandos sons and daughters are shown in the introduction at his daughters weddings, and their personalities and intentions are as different as can be. His son Sonny (played by James Caan) has a fiery temper and spits at a group of private detectives after smashing their cameras to bits. His son Michael (in a career-making performance by Al Pacino) tells his girlfriend (Diane Keaton) a story. In the story, his father (Brando) gave a man an offer he couldnt refuse (a term that has now become a part of American culture) This means that a gun was put to a mans head, and it was assured that either his brains or his signature would be on a contract that his father wanted signed. Michaels girlfriend looks at him with shock and horror when she hears the story, and Michael firmly says Thats my family its not me. What follows is a nasty run-in with the illegal narcotics gang in which Don Vito is shot and nearly killed. In one of the most powerful scenes in the history of cinema, Michael turns on his word to his love and murders a police officer and a gang member in cold blood. The Godfather is like a Shakespearean tragedy. We see a man who is pure of heart and has good intentions plummet deep into a dark and senseless life. The theme of the movie isnt carried forward with gunfights, car chases and constant action. It is a well-paced drama with sudden bursts of shocking violence to keep the audiences attention. And to hold it all together so beautifully, there is Nino Rotas haunting musical score. This is the first and most powerful installment in arguably the best trilogy in the history of film. This movie alone has paved the way for epics and single-handedly created new standards for film-making excellence. This is not only the Best Picture of 1972, as its well-earned Oscar states. I feel that this is the Best Picture of all time..

One of Brando's best movie ( a streetcar named desire), this film has changed history in films and books. Just watch it. I am 500% sure ull never 4get this film or book [...].

As with 99.9% of the population, the best movie of all times. What is there not to like. This really happened and is still happening. The Corleone family is all about love, respect, and staying together through the good and bad times. Once again BRAVO. I own this movie, and it sits on a very special place in my living room. Yeah ive got to say that this movie grabbed me from the very beginning. I was very surprised as I didnt realise how many other actors were there that I hadnt heard about. Robert Duvall was great and looking veere young, I finally got to see the great Marlon Brando, I didnt realise Caan was in it too! And he looked pretty good. I really enjoyed this movie and the insight into the underworld was thrilling. It's a must see, it's not called one of the greatest movies of our time for nothing.
