This was a nice "historical" gangster movie with an acceptable story line, and good action scenes. Ryan Gosling has a weird accent or way to talk that got a bit on my nerves though.

This movie is more of a filler. The story doesn't work even in the context of a gangster film. The writing seems drab, no chemistry between Stone and Gosling. Disappointing.

I didn't go with high expectations. I'm a big Brolin and Gosling fan and that's what drew me to the movie. It was entertaining but not the best movie. The directing could have been better.

Worst Sean Penn movie ever. Sooo disappointed.

Great movie with an all around great cast. Worth seeing if you're into the film noir / crime drama scene.

A great period piece dealing with the little known Wild West of LA in the late 40's. Lots of action with a somewhat weak story line. Fun movie!

This movie was not bad, I think it had the potential to be a lot better. I think the role that Sean Penn played had to be his worst I've ever seen. No depth on acting in this role. The other characters seemed to definitely outshine him in this movie.

Lots of action and good old fashioned shoot em up story.

I really enjoyed this film. The characters were interesting, there was a lot of humour and heart, and there were quite a few original moments to it. Definitely recommend.

Movie was good, slow at times, guess they were building the plot, as it is based on a true story, guess it can't be all exciting all the time. Worth the watch in the theatres. Will see again when it comes out on DVD... Action sequences were awesome.

This period film (1950's) depicts Sean Penn as an evil, Irish Mafioso who is running the L. A. underworld. Josh Brolin and Ryan Gosling are apparently rogue cops who work in an unofficial role to cause as much damage as possible to the underworld operations. The dialogue was not very original, the plot was predictable and the focus of the movie seemed to be to cram in as much violence as possible in the 2 hour film. Should be a popular film though with the teenage crowd.

Ryan Gosling is... Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone is a babe. It has all the cliché gangster movie stuff, which makes it a little cheesy, but in a good way.

This is told from the police perspective, with some odd interludes of fury from Mickey Cohen. It might have been better giving the life story of Mickey Cohen. There is a lot of brutality throughout.

It was better than I expected. Favourite performance was Josh Brolin. Sean Penn was pretty scary especially those facial expression close up.

Loved Josh Brolin and Sean Penn. It was a fun movie, lots of action/shoot them up. Passable story. This will not be a classic ala Godfathers etc….. but entertaining enough to keep you interested.

It was a solid movie but it could have been amazing so for me it was kind of a let down but was a good movie.

Penn was amazing, all the actors did a great job, too bad the story line was so... lacking? Predictable? Stereotypical?

Reminded me of The Untouchables movie but The Untouchables was twice as good. Lots of violence and gun play. Not a good movie.

1st I would like to say thank you to Cinemaclock for the free tickets to the advance screening. =) A gangster flick... we've all seen dozen of them. This one was good although it didn't bring anything new to the genre. The plot was previsible. The good guys were quite good, as for Sean Penn he utterly bad as the vilain. I enjoyed my evening, but the movie was just ok.

This movie is packed full of stars. The one that shone brightest for me is Ryan Gosling. He has a way of delivering his lines with that twinkle in his eyes that proves he loves what he is doing. He pairs up once again with Emma Stone who is a great co-star. Love the era, the clothes and the neon lights! A great Gansta movie if that's what you go for.

I loved it! I loved the style! I loved watching Ryan, and even Emma looked great!

Exciting movie, nice to see the good guys win.

It was a good movie, a lot of violence but it is that kind of movie. Good actors.
