With the exception of the first two movies, all the rest of the "Alien" movies were just embarrassingly dull. Even the Aliens Vs Predator series didn't make much sense, were poorly scripted and shot like cheap slasher films. I'm biased, when I first saw Alien in the theatre in 1979, I think, it was the most atavistic, savage terrifying movie of the genre. I left the theatre soaked in sweat. I've had nightmares for years where aliens were hiding and leaping out on me. So when the sequels started coming out, I hoped, and feared, they would do it again. Alas. Prometheus was an awesome cinematic film, but the story, sadly left way more questions than it answered, and there was nothing remotely logical or sequential about it. Since Scott won't be making any more of them, there's not much hope for the series to get any better. Too bad. Scott is an excellent director, but he should have just dumped this idea, or at least fixed the gaping sewers and plot holes left behind. Of course, he made millions of dollars, so my opinions clearly are irrelevant.

This movie is a must see for any Alien fan!!! And for all those people that say there is no connection between both films... I can just tell you to go watch Alien closely again!!!.. The big connection is the alien's ship that you see in a form of a "U" with the big navigation gun in the command center. In Alien you see this ship that's crashed and they go in from the whole in the ship made from the crash of prometheus into the ship, and you see the big gun in Alien as well... Also , the last alien you see in the ending of Prometheus should talk by it self in saying that this movie really is the prequel to the anthology of Alien!!!.. Other than that... this movie is brilliant... the SFX and gorgeous, the picture quality, the 3D, the surround sound is outstanding!! The movie is a little slow to start up but once its up and running... it becomes a masterpiece!!!.. Once again, a MUST HAVE for any Alien fan!!!

I had too many unanswered questions at the end of the movie to enjoy it. Otherwise it was a nice sci-fi movie that reminded me a lot of the Alien movies. I wonder why :)

So well done in 3D that even if I knew it would end badly I wanted to be on that ship.

I'm not a cheap person, but I regret renting it for 5$. The movie is really retarded. I'm not a scientist either, but some concerns voiced here on this site are legitimate. The things that the characters (humans) do in the movie are illogical, careless, plain stupid. It will disconnect you from the movie, and it has nothing to do with the fact that it's a sci-fi movie. On the positive side, the scenery is interesting, and the opening scene grabs you.

I am a huge fan of the “Alien” film franchise, and because of that I will be very critical of this film. No biases here. The film is an indirect prequel to Alien and as such should be viewed and treated as its own story. That leads us to….. 1) The Story: Prometheus takes a very sticky subject that can honestly upset some people and tries to fit it into a two hour epic. That subject is life. Who made us? Where did we come from? Why did they make us? The concept is cool as long as you are not a holy roller but it is a difficult and monumental task to make an epic about creationism in just two hours. This leads to one of the film’s problems, the pacing. To me this film moves much too quickly. So quick in fact that film events seem too irrational on the character’s parts. The pacing is this movie’s biggest enemy. 2) The Characters: I have become a fan of Michael Fassbender over the past year or so and I have to say that his performance as “David” in this film is excellent. It’s actually one of the movie’s finer points. Like I mentioned before they rushed the pacing of the film and character development suffered greatly from it. There is no emotional attachment to any character in the movie as you haven’t spent enough time to get to know any of the crew of the Prometheus. It’s too bad as it’s a fine ensemble of actors and actresses. Charlize Theron as the cold suit, “Vickers” was a bit of an awkward character. It was like there was more to her story that we didn’t get to see. Noomi Rapace as “Dr. Elizabeth Shaw”, a passionate and determined scientist had what appears to be an interesting past but still felt like it could have been fleshed out more. 3) Creature and set design: This part pains me. In 1979, Hans Rudi Giger created one of the most memorable movie sets to be ever seen in a sci-fi horror flick. Even more so, he created one of the most iconic bad ass aliens ever to grace the silver screen. Unfortunately Mr. Giger wasn’t around to help out with this film. I didn’t care for the look of the sets or more so the new aliens in this film. They were too typical “Hollywood Cthulu”. The moon landscape and ship interior was perfect though. There were a few chambers aboard the Prometheus that took you right back to ‘79’s Alien tugboat, the Nostromo. That little reminder was awesome. 4) Visuals: Well before the release of this movie, Ridley Scott promised no CG effects will be used in this film unless it was absolutely necessary, such as in the case for the Prometheus traveling through space. Well Ridley, you can’t hide it, a little more CGI was used then that….. In this day of age of film making, CG is common place. So common that it is almost becoming less noticeable. It does create endless new possibilities for effects in movies, but you have to admit that at times it can look a little shoddy and can take away from a film. CG aside, the visuals of this film was breath taking. The opening sequence alone is enough to tell you that you are in for a visual treat. Ridley Scott knows that powerful visuals and gripping score can make an okay movie into an excellent flick. Finally, Prometheus is a film I have waited 33 years for and even though I did enjoy it for the most part, it’s pacing and character/plot development was a very sore spot. Many questions were left unanswered but I know that they will be answered in the upcoming sequel “Paradise”. How many more years do I have to wait though…… My rating for this film 7/10 – Good but not a classic.

F... FAIL... This doesn't even earn a C+ in my books. Fail in every respect. I am so SO thankful I didn't spend money on it. Terrible... Just terrible on all levels. I won't even go into all its failures.

Horrible. It looks okay but it does an epic faceplant when it comes to the story. The plot is about half a sentence. The end sequence is going to be as much as a surprise to people as the sun rising in the morning. The portrayal of the scientists is what really irked me. The scientists are portrayed as having the scientific skills of a overripe turnip. If you land on a strange planet, you might want to take precautions. Ditto for the moronic ship captain. Do yourself a favour, use the two hours you'd spend seeing this turd and take in Alien or Aliens again. Hard to believe that a movie this epic could be so bad, makes you wonder if anyone actually had the courage to stand up to Ridley Scott when it was being made. I get the impression Scott was surrounded by yes people who either thought he could do no wrong or wanted him to fail.

Yay, Ridley Scott destroys a great franchise (Fincher and Jeunet weren't even close) it's to Aliens what Crystal Skulls was to Indianna Jones. Fassbender was great though.

What a disappointment! I am a big fan of the alien series but in this prequel the plot was so flawed and the dialogue so poorly written that it left frustrated and annoyed. The director focused on special effects and forgot that a movie needs a well written story. Don't waste your money and time.

The special effects were impressive and didn't mind seeing it in 3D even though I'm not a fan of 3D movies. Both of the leads' (Naomi Rapace & Micheal Fassender) performances were terrific. As for Guy Pierce & Charlize Theron, they were just average.

I would have given it a 9 if not for the 'too clever' approach to leaving some reasonable questions unanswered. That aside, the acting, directing, 'feel', photography, etc, and special effects, were all from a Director and his team who were 'on their game'! Indeed, 'Great movie... don't miss it! '

I saw this movie last night and was blown away by the special effects it was amazing! The story line was quite good too, and so were the characters! I don't know what anybody was talking about saying that it was bad because it wasn't it was amazing. I really like the ending when we find out about how the alien was created, which leads us up to the alien movies! It was just breath taking, I loved it! One thing I disliked about it was how some of the parts were kinda like "what the..." but other whys you must see it, it was fantastic!

Prometheus captured my imagination. I was hoping for a new twist based on the original 'Alien' and that is what Ridley Scott provided. All in all a wonderful exploration of the human psyche.

I saw the whole Alien trilogy and simply adored it. It was disturbingly good and then I heard about Prometheus being the event that started all of this. So when I saw it was in theaters, I was like I needed to see it right away! The whole concept is so original and not a copy of some other movie, it's the beginning of Alien which is awesome. The special effects are insane and I love the choice for Michael Fassebender for acting as Prometheus. Super awesome movie a definite must see ♥

There's a couple of things that will not be on and would be a hazard to the crew of multi-billion dollar space research vessel in the future. Smoking dullard scientists and tough-guy female religious nuts. (Alien snake comes out of the water in front of scientist, scientist takes a puff of nicotine from his ingeniously altered spacesuit and says; Hey little guy, just before alien snake monster proceeds to put an end to his addiction. Tough-guy says; where's my cross". Spaceballs was better.

It's definitely a movie for to watch on the big screen. Great effects and photography. It won't answer all the questions we wanted yet it does propose a new ideology. The writers could have done a bit better but in space movies sometimes you don't need that much talk, it's about the suspense, like event horizon...

Whoa! I thought from the trailers that this film was going to be great... and it was! Honestly, one of the best sci-fi films ever. Truly amazing special effects. Great cast with great acting. Fassbender was superb, as always. The film ties into the alien films nicely (minus a few small details) and leaves it open for more story in between Prometheus and Alien, and perhaps new material from which more Alien films can venture into. Really amazing film. So creepy and disturbing. I love it!

I had seen the reviews before I went to watch the movie, and some reviews were very discouraging. Thus I expected pretty the "worst". CONTRARY. The movie as a prequel is even better than its predecessor, the Alien, if it is possible. That's not a Hollywood action plot for sure, though action filled if you like, and as a moving picture it's great picture and sound, and at least good acting. I would give even 10 plus to this movie. It makes you think, challenging You, and conveys the real message, that we are not alone, THE encounter can happen anytime. GO AND WATCH.

Prometheus puts us back on the precipice of another all-time masterpiece. Some shallowly view it as a prequel to Alien, however, it is a prequel unto itself. Many complain of unanswered questions; and fail to see how exciting it will be to see those questions filled in at the sequels. [...] It deserves a 12 star rating; period. He will make millions while they act like they could have actually have done something better. Hehehehe.

Prometheus is a something of a rarity: a quality sci-fi film. Ridley Scott tends to favour action and suspense, but he's also a storyteller. The story, unfortunately, is a bit choppy, with a few too many convenient shortcuts and bailouts. As a result the movie sometimes falters, never quite sustaining a rising tension. One significant problem is Logan Marshall-Green: he's an awful actor. Noomi Rapace is the lead and she's just all right: if only Charlize Theron had taken this role! Still, despite its choppiness and uneven cast, Scott somehow manages to craft a film that is engaging to the end.

Folks are crazy. This movie was visually stunning! As with all of Scott's movies, the environment was totally captivating, The effects were brilliant, and the movie was constantly intense - a great way to spend a couple hours! However, afterward there are plenty of little things that begin to itch at the back of your mind, poor efforts at making the story cohesive when you look back. But when you are in the theatre, you are immersed completely. Enjoy!

Umm... NO. This was bad. I am a huge fan of the alien movies... HUGE. But this was just disappointing. And why end it like that? One film to address where 'they' came from would have sufficed. Without the answer, it is a hash of alien monsters, ughhh 'there is an alien in my eye' moments, dead people not really dead but 'courrupted', and big ships. Arghh.

I am a fan of the Alien movies and of Charlize Theron, but this movie was very disappointing. I actually thought the story was alright and was okay with the beginning. However, as the movie went on it was just a series of gimmics and recycled scenes from former sci-fi movies. The movie was a series of poorly put together ideas, that kept me hoping it would it would miraculously come out in the end, but it didn't. Very, disappointing.

So far the best movie I've seen in theaters this year, and I haven't seen too many. I only recall seeing Wrath of Titans, Avengers, & the new Spiderman... This movie was great to me b/c it has to do with the belief in other life forms out there and the purpose of life, a mystery none of are 100% certain of, till this day. Excellent sci-fi, horrific CGI (those huge mammals were scary powerful), thriller, and a few more genres that will leave you in a bit of a memorable cliffhanger. Hope the sequels to come actually do come and only get better as the story unfolds into a universal exploration, not another alien movie, unless done well with new appearances, which they considerably did in this movie with the species with similar DNA's to human (don't know what they're called) See if this mysterious universe interests you.

I was happy to not see another Alien monster running to kill the crew once again for the entire movie (over used scenario since Alien!) For those who wrote (and they usually gave very low score) that there is no story or the plot was disjointed or it leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions or kept waiting for something to happen: Yes there is a plot-story-scenario (even a lot of philosophic reflexions) but not as simplistic as Spiderman, Avatar or those kind of hollywood movie. As a David Lynch fan, I did not mind that everything was not explained. On the contrary it leaves spaces for your imagination. But then some don't seem to like that and prefer to see the same story over and over as long as there are some actions. Every taste is in the nature, but if you are in the mood for a no-brainer this is not for you.
