Good movie. Worth Seeing. Suspenseful.

This was one of the sillier movies I've seen in a while. The story was lame and the tempo was monotone. There just wasn't enough imagination to make it interesting enough to sit through for a couple of hours. My date wanted to see that movie and honestly, she was the only enjoyable thing that whole evening.

The best movie based on an adaptation since The Vampire's Assistant came out! It's even better than the teen horror episode!

I absolutely ADORED this AMAZING movie, it caught my attention and the actors were fitted perfectly. Though it was a little scary or sad (rue's death) it is by FAR my favorite movie of all time. I have watched it 4 times In the cinema I have mow got on DVD. I wouldn't miss the sequels and finale movie for the world! A brilliant MUST SEE movie!!! It may not be suitable for children under 10 unfortunately:(

I watched this movie for free on Netflix. I never wanted to see this movie as I thought it would be bad. Normally when I have such low expectations I am pleasantly surprised. Not this time. This movie was based on a very stupid premise which was overly simplistic. The acting was wooden and I could have cared less for any of the characters or whether they lived or died. The action was boring and virtually non-existent. I must have fallen asleep as it did not make sense to me that the two main characters even liked each other, yet alone fell in love somehow. This movie makes the Twilight series seem like Shakespeare. It can only be described as dumb. Yet I see over 1100 reviews on here with an average rating of 8.2? I am literally scratching my head as to how this could be. [...]

I read the books before seeing this movie, and thought there was some special parts in the book that weren't in the movie and it took long before the games started but it's a really good movie once you get into it. Jennifer Lawrence really makes a good Katniss! Cant wait for Catching Fire! :)

Incredibly tedious and uninteresting. I have stopped going to movies now and wait for the TV release to watch in comfort of my home. A lot less expensive and 100% more comfortable. Poor movie.

I don't see on what basis that majority of the people say that it is an awesome movie. Who gets their kicks out of seeing kids killing kids, especially, hunting them down like animals (morbid movie storyline that I doubt kids will truly understand aside that it is cool and has violence on the surface) Should have remained as a book.

It was alright. Katniss is portrayed as more plain and less beautiful in the books so her transformation is more drastic. She is also a lot more difficult in the books so the movie does keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see if she is going to screw things up.

I was a bit disappointed, and didn't understand how Hunger got such a high score. Then I noticed it's basically a tween movie. My mistake. It's not bad, yet pretty predictable.

I came in with high expectations... wow. I don't see how a normal human being can enjoy watching kids killing themselves, adding half of those kids are there against their will. I felt disgusted and I don't see where's the entertainment in that. Definitely not for everyone.

So the opening chapter of a popular book trilogy aimed at tweens and teens makes millions at the box office. In a few years you could basically transplant any movie title you want into that little blurb with the way things are going in Hollywood these days. If it's not a sequel, prequel or remake, it's a superhero movie or the start of another trilogy. As a fan of substantive films this is very scary trend. However, The Hunger Games deserves some credit for at least attempting something deeper than Twilight and darker than Harry Potter. The fight to the death while others watch storyline is, somewhat disturbingly, not a new concept. Yet the winks at reality TV are clever, as is the concept of sponsorship and how it is necessary to ensure the participants survival. Jennifer Lawrence is a strong heroine and the supporting cast, particularly Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci is also strong. The whole love triangle thing has been beaten to death and those expecting some bloody fight scenes will also be let down. However, the film holds one attention the entire time, even through a bumpy first hour. If teenage girls are going to go crazy over something I'd rather it was this and not Twilight.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
Recently watched this movie on DVD and am thankful I didn't waste money at the theatre. The movie had much potential to be a powerful portrayal about a futuristic totalitarian society, but unfortunately it was contaminated by typical hollywood dumbed down hype, and infected with terrible script writing, story line, and character development. To make things worst the scatter brained motion sickness camera work was excruciatingly painful to endure with its multitude of split second scene to scene sequences. If I didn't have severe ADHD before the movie I did afterwards. Adding to the misery was the rediculous depiction of a fight to the death / totalitarian regime situation that was illogical and flawed throughout the entire movie. The believability factor in many of the scenes insulted the intelligence, especially when the main character fails to take the spear that killed her friend or retrieve any of the precious rare arrows that could have been retrievable. Small details like this make a huge difference unless the audience cares little for logic and things that make sense. And the movie seemed juvenile and Disneylandish which is what may have been intended to make it palatable and marketable for children and youth. This movie is another of the many examples of poor quality media fobbed off as great stuff upon a target audeince with a seemingly insatiable appetite for dumbed down trash. Mel Gibson's Apocalypto movie was highly criticized yet it is a high quality movie light years ahead of The Hunger Games in many respects.

Firstly, the good things about this movie is that there is no swearing and no nudity. The values of the movie is also great... a loving family member willing to give up her life for her sister. The types and shadows, love, competition, honour, are also there. Where the movie fails is in the cinematic effects... it's way too confusing... too fast on the camera approach and too slow on the story line. There were some great actors in the film like Donald Sutherland but even he couldn't carry the film. I'm glad I watched it. I'm glad I didn't pay to go and see it or I would have wanted my money back. If you want to see a futuristic depiction of such games watch Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto". It is much more violent but much more believable.

I have no idea why people rate this movie so high. It is one of the worst movies from the ethical point of view I have seen in years. If you are rating this movie higher than 4 or 5 you are supporting this absurd plot, you are becoming part of the capital city society that controls the districts. The only two acceptable endings would be either she and him destroying the wealthy society and ending hunger games forever or the districts revolting and overthrowing the oppressors. If you liked this movie you are a minion that fail to see the bigger picture.

Great movie. Not as good as the book, obviously, but still very good. I honestly thought it should have been a lot bloodier. C'mon, it's a movie about kids killing each other. The complete absence of blood (as far as I can remember) makes the action scenes seem a bit unrealistic. However... still an awesome movie. Super cool premise. Great storyline.

I hadn't read the books but the hype made me want to see this movie. The filmmakers created a unique world of the very poor and the excessively wealthy. The actors were excellently cast - touching, sensitive performances in a violent, dark setting. If you like a movie that has everything - this is the movie for you. Action, adventure, romance, drama, comedy, fantasy - it's got it all and is completely riveting. I'm going back for seconds.

Not as good as the Hype. It had a few original and clever moments. The show might even be an errie messanger of the future world to come? It's worth seeing or renting for that matter. Somehow I expected more, but I'm glad I saw it.

I'd never heard of the book before I saw the movie. Saw the movie, loved it, read the trilogy over a weekend, went back and saw the movie. Terrific, exciting, scary, and had me going -- the first time, of course, until the very end -- will they eat the berries, will he fake her out, will she fake him out... I'm on this movie site because I was thinking of seeing it again. Also, people, don't take your kids to see this movie. It's about KIDS KILLING KIDS. Geez, what's up with people that they'd let their children see this movie?

Amazing movie, with gifted actors, young and old. I have read all of the books and it is disappointing that some did not make it in, but then the movie would be 6 hours long. Still I think they did an incredible job. Jennifer Lawrence IS Katniss, what a talent!! I still recommend that you read the books if you haven't!
