It's great to see John Cusack again on the big screen. Actors of his depth and quality are few and far between these days and he brings a dimension to the film that alone is worth the price of admission. I like the darkness of this film, from the story itself to the way the film was shot. There's an eeriness that permeates it and fits perfectly into the literary style of Poe. It's reminiscent of Sherlock Holmes and The Headless Horseman combined. Stylistic and thoughtful.

I went in with high hopes on this one. With a good cast, plot and story line, I was expecting much better.

The movie overall was okayish. Nothing great but it was still worth seeing. I was not expecting much, so hence... was not disappointed at all.

The raven is a disappointing film. While the story holds itself together and the whodunit aspect works pretty decently, the movie as a whole just drags itself. In addition, as a fan of John, I wasn't particularly sure that this was the best casting for the role. I would have preferred a more dramatic, eccentric actor for the part though John did a fine job. The love story works well here though the chemistry between the actors doesn't shine through like I would have liked it to. Altogether, this movie had the makings of a good thriler with a decent plot and love story, but it fell way short. It is worth the rental but that's about it.

I would compare this movie to eating 50 year old bread. Do I need to say anything more?

Not horrible like I expected. Nothing really clever or unique about it, but it was entertaining. The ending was good, not a cop out.

John Cusack displays the type of character Edgar was. I like how they mixed his actual poems into the movie, it had good thrills, wasn't very gory, don't know why people are saying it was. In today's age this movie was unreal, 20 years ago it would be above average.

Great movie with very gorey stomach churning scenes. Easy on the ear and eye with a good mix of gothic style and Poe wordsmithing. A classic who done it with a great costumes and drama. The initial soundtrack to the credits was strange though... didn't seem to fit... oh well.

My review for The Raven Make no mistake, it was the full moon that compelled me to go see "The Raven"... so glad I did. I never quite realized that Edgar Allan Poe was such a masterful and mysterious writer. This film was highly suspenseful and gripping. I enjoyed the storyline and found it quite thrilling with Poe's actual writings entwined throughout. The city's dark rainy streets, and oppressive atmosphere seem to pull you in, locking your eyes to the screen. The visuals and cinematography is amazing as well. I would say this picture grimly reflects this American author's life as it really was. John Cusack nailed his role perfectly as Poe, capturing this man's charismatic, creative, and tortured self very well. I couldn't help thinking how much Cusack resembled Poe, not just in his looks, but also in his characterization. The other cast members did a fantastic job as well. As for the pace of this movie, it swiftly moves along and keeps you guessing all the way to the dramatic conclusion. There are many scenes to make you jump, lots of tense activity that add to the excitement. The killer plays a deranged madman. All through the film, I was constantly making wild guesses as to his identity, but was never quite sure. Only in the very end does he reveal his true self. I can tell you I was very surprised to find out who this elusive killer was. Also, I should mention that the murders in this flick are horrific and extremely gruesome... lots of blood and gore to churn ones stomach and make you want to shut your eyes. Lastly, I thought the 18th century setting for this movie was historically accurate. The beautiful costumes and hairdos were remarkable. In closing, some people may have issues about this fictional account/story about Poe but it makes for a great thriller. Get out to see "The Raven" now.

So disappointed in it. I was lost through a lot of the movie even though I watched it from start to end. I was personally expecting a lot better. The trailer made a better movie than the actuall movie itself.

A friend took me to this movie. It failed to hold my attention, and there were a few gory scenes that felt like they were just crammed in there. I wanted to get my rating in here but found I had to write a review. I would not recommend this movie.

It's a very good movie in the beginning, it's some kind of horror but it brings a good atmosphere to the film. It's a very good film.

I have a tendency to fall asleep at long (movies, comedy, horror, whatever); I stayed awake and was entertained throughout. That's a GOOD thing!! It wasn't extreme in gore, thrill, etc. ; it DID keep the killer a mystery right to the end, and I love a mystery more than gore. All in all, I thought it was very nicely put together. I enjoyed it very much, though I might not run back to see it a second time.

Awesome for a story about Edgar Allan Poe, John Cusack plays him marvelously.

Not John Cusack's best work. He was much better in Runaway Jury. Now, that was a great picture! This is drech.

I really liked this film-solid piece of entertainment, keeps you guessing and worried about the fate of the characters. It's not a blockbuster but it is extremely well-done. Go see it, you'll enjoy it.

I liked this movie; interesting, full of suspense and nice cast. John Cusack does a great job, he's very talented. It's very violent though, but entertaining. It's worth seeing if you like thrillers.

This movie is a good thriller, if you know a bit of the short stories of Poe it's amazing! All movie you wonder who is the murderer until the end and if you enjoy thrillers you should go see it!

A very dark and thrilling movie, but unfortunately it has weak performances by the actors and a poorly written script to make it a good movie.

Very, very interesting plot. I've always been a fan of Poe, so this story was very appealing to me. I liked this movie a lot and would recommend it to anyone. Good twists, nice amount of gore, lovely costumes and good actors. No grand masterpiece, but quite entertaining.
