This film I found to be quite good and was considered written very well done. Same goes for the acting It brought some reality as this could happen anytime anywhere in the world. We had seen news constantly about horrible episodes happening in high schools as well as our junior colleges which is dreadful. This film had showed some horrible gang mentality on streets with real life. Although it is scary but it brings out thoughts and hope in society as this happens in society too often and gets us to think more of wandering how we are able to handle this kind of issue. It gets us to think.

187 is a movie that haunts you if your a student in an upscale urban neighborhood, anywhere else than Los Anglelo's!!! The thought of having to go to school everyday in a climate like that of 187 should scare the daylights out of any highschool student that "Has it made" in a private, or rather well kept public school in say... Kentucky? The movie is shot in a grainy but necessary look to give the viewer the sense that it's alway's uncomfortable. Perhaps the blending of the grainy nature and the obivious heat index that is evident in the film. It's these types of tricks of the trade that general audience members do not pick up on immediatley, but feel it in thier gut as thier viewing the film. Samuel Jackson is his self, simply wonderful, and you do feel for his charachter that is truely trying to make a difference with less than desirable conditions. Dave Childress is the movies most intrigueing charachter. What we see on the surface of his charachter is a somewhat laid back teacher, and for a reason. He's been there done that, and is ready at any moment to shoot these punks, should the chance presnt its self. Though we see him displaying his firearms in what most gun enthusiast would seem rather exploitative of the real gun owner in America. There is a sense that what the teacher is doing is right, even though we know it's cold murder, it's pleasing to our sense of retaliation against what most would consider worthless sperm donations anyway. It's obvious that the tail is no longer wagging the dog at this point, and the audience is taken into another relm of thier own personal ethics, morals, and the sense of right and wrong in a war zone. And, this is exactly what this is, a War Zone!!!

Well, let's agree this film was well made and acted in, but as an older white dude I can still remember when East LA, Boyer Heights, Lincoln Park, Lynwood, and even Compton (the Hub City) as all beautiful suburbs with great highschools to attend. Then California had the best schools in the nation. The two toughest schools in my day were Reese, and Banning.., where I attended. Many tax payers are leaving California now for the very reasons brought out in this film. Waste of money and time trying to change these sub-life individuals who are quickly overwhelming a once great place to live. Shouldn't take long before the place looks like Rio, in Brazil when the last tax payer gives up and leaves the area. My wife does translation work for the Estonian TV and film industry. I had to laugh at her efforts to tranlate the trash-mouth mumbo-jumbo in the film.., as there simply aren't that many filthy words in other civilized languages.., good movie, but "why" was it made, and "what" was the message were we left with.. ?

I think 187 is a very good film because the story tells us the aggressivity from students.

Although it can be found in the horror section at Blockbuster, I wouldn't say this movie is horror so much as it is a dark movie. Most everything that happens in this movie could actually happen in real life, (which we rarely see in horror flicks), making it that much darker. I saw this movie for the first time about 5 years ago and am getting ready to watch it for the 3rd time in a few minutes. In any case, I highly recommend it and doubt anyone who sees it would disagree with me. Enjoy! P. S. This is not a movie that should be paused for any reason if you can help it, grab the popcorn and coke, turn the phone off (as well as the lights, just for the affect) and try to watch it straight though if at all possible.

I thought the movie was well made, but it could have been a bit more original. The ending was taken from deer hunter, and there seem to be a lot of movies about teachers around that time. I thought it did show how corrupt the systems could be though.

I had to write a comment - as someone over 30 that was impressed by the direction, cinematography, acting, and soundtrack. While the story falls under the "triumph over foolish gang mentality, " the director did a solid job of taking an over-the-top storyline and making it a real movie to watch.

I think 187 was a great movie. It shows what the real life streets are all about and what it's like living in the ghetto!

I enjoyed this movie, The hard movies are good because it shows that life can be hard at times, plus it kind of related to American History X and that movie was swell. The only thing about this movie is that why would an african american try and help out a troubled teen such ass the skin head, this I don't understand but still makes for an interesting movie.

I didn't really like the movie, the acting by Sam Jackson was great but it is just another movie about gangs and violence, not really my cup of tea.
