A "slice of life" film set in the backwoods of the Ozarks. We get a glimpse of dirt poor rural America and how the people live and the unsopken code of conduct that governs their lives. It is bleak, cold and unfeeling but there is a sense of reality to. It has been compared to "Deliverance" but it falls far short of this classic... although still worth seeing. I have no idea why anyone would tout the lead actress as Oscar worthy... her performance is good but definitely not award winning.
