The story had so much potential but it completely missed the mark. Although I like Mila Kunis in many of her previous roles, I just didn't think she was believable in this role. They needed someone a little younger and more naive. In addition to the casting of Kunis, the scene at the end of the movie with Kunis I found to be ridiculous to the point of actually laughing. Finally, and what I believe to be the main flaw of the movie is the fact that they completely 'dumbed it down' in order to give it a greater mass appeal. Specifically, having Gary Oldman's character explain in detail why he had to have the book, completely took away from the authenticity and subtlety of the story. Let the viewer figure it out for themselves rather than spoon feeding them the plot. This type of spoon fed Directing was present throughout the movie and is what ultimately made a great story into a disappointing movie.
