Roman Polanski was at his best. Wonderful Jack N and Faye D acting. Great story and period LA depiction.

If Bogart played the role of the P. I., it would have been a different movie, still very good. But Nicholson played it as a know-it-all who always knew what was going on until he found out differently. Then repeated the process. I have watched this film half a dozen times, and every time I am more impressed. Performances by Faye Dunaway, John Huston, Burt Young, the detectives, even Roman Polanski, were spot on. A brilliant film.

This movie is one of the best I've ever seen. Jack N gave one of his best performence ever and the storyline is one of a kind. This movie did deserve to be rank the #4 best movie of all time on ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY's but godfather is still #1 P. S: if your young you would probebly not like this movie but if your a moviegoers like me you will like it (I'm 15 years old)

One of the best movies ever!!! Nicholson-nothing can move him, and Dunaway-cold as ice beauty, but how fragile!!! 100% of masterpiece!!!

Words could never portray the ardour fervour grace allure and grandeur composed here. Purely portentous.

One of the best film noir films ever. Great performances by Nicholson, Dunaway, and Houston. Great supporting roles. Sexy muted trumpet music and a plot that keeps you guessing even today. Next time notice the extraordinary "extraneous" sounds on the sound track... dogs barking, cars honking, kids playing. Fascinating.

Roman Polanski's little epic starts as a murder mystery or detective story, and transforms to an inquiry into evil in American history. This explains the mysterious title, "Chinatown." Private Investigator, Jake Gittes, courageously inquisitive, discovers that the tragic plight of the woman he loves is not only his own predicament, but true of just about everybody in the United States (even outside California) This is quite a monster movie based on the omnipotent fortune's child, Noah Cross, performed by the Renaissance skills of John Huston. I can never watch Polanski's fearful Revelation without an eerie chill.

This is noire cinema at it's best. Nicholson is the best PI I have ever seen in the movies, and the direction and atmosphere are just perfect. Don't miss this one, even though the ending is hard to understand, with the remote, you can figure out just what is going on...
