Creditable performances by all concerned, but the storyline is nothing more than the "Dumbo" story reworked into a soccer-match setting, with a couple of plot-twists. You can predict the ending before the movie even really takes off. The 'uplifting' message of the movie is constantly battling with the grey, oppressive, cold, damp, dreary atmosphere that is England. Robert Carlyle's formidable talent is wasted here. He spends most of his time pulling faces and looking frustrated... Much like the audience members around me who were floundering with the Manch-accents and sometimes inaudible dialogue. Not a bad movie, but in the end, forgettable.
