There is a distinct mark to the films Lasse Halsstrom directs and it is present in all his films even a comedy like Chocolat. That special something is the perfect casting and the caracters small or not are always remembered after you saw the movie. I have to say although I am not a Juliette Binoche fan, this time her beauty his well served in this script because she uses it in a subtle way and it is more a tool than her only talent this time around. Finally I'd like to add that Dame Judi Dench again works her magic as the old landlady and should be consisedered for an Oscar again.
