The concept is simple yet effective and to the point. It is life-affirming and positive and hopeful and full of truth. It is a good premise upon which to base one's life, and these days it is nice to see an example of a simple way in which each one of us can make a difference in the world. It is sweet and gently entertaining. I liked it.

Un film émotif des fois confusant mais toujours bon. Je dois avouer; c'est très mélageant, à un moment le film parle d'une certaine chose, ensuite d'une autre, des fois il va y avoir des "flash-backs" mais ça reste un film plus ou moins bon.
| 8/10 | koolsombrero@ - 2 reviews 12.4.2006 - age: 1-12 |
Very touching... one movie that makes you think on a deeper level.

This is a good movie, with good acting, good writing, good story. Unfortunately, not great in any way.

W O W!!! I finally got to see this movie after SO many people have talked about it. What a wonderful message it brings! I recommend this to both young and old for it is NEVER too late to make a start.

Terrific movie! Really leaves you thinking once you leave the theater... What can I do that would make a difference in someone's life? Great story, great acting.

Brilliant! Anything that makes you think, even if only for a moment is a worthy thing. Anything that changes the way you think, is stupendous. It felt like a Steinbeck moment and strengthened my resolve not to give up, even if things can seem like a "waste by-product" at times.
| 10/10 | t_chall1@ - first review 1.12.2002 - age: 26-35 |
This movie was really worth watching it gives you the big picture. It will help you understand that kids make a difference in everybody's life. That might not be the message they wanted viewers to get but it's what I walked away with. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes a good drama. TWO THUMBS UP!!!
| 8/10 | camrich@ - first review 10.10.2002 - age: 26-35 |
This is the most amazing movie I've ever seen. If you happen to like touching dramas, you'll love this and if you don't, you should see it anyway. Call me sappy but I think everyone owes it to the world to watch this.

Please see this movie if you haven't already. It taught me so much. A very sad movie towards the end, though, so make sure you have a BIG hanky!!!
| 10/10 | wandajb@ - 44 reviews 1.5.2002 - age: 36-49 |
I saw it a few years ago and found it a very charming movie, that made me laugh and cry out loud. I still don't think the boy had to die, but hey that's Hollywood. The movie so moved me that I started doing random acts of kindness too!
| 9/10 | dorst@ - 5 reviews 16.3.2002 - age: 50+ |
I LOVED the movie. It was one of the best movies of the year. The ending was a surprise. I cried. So did everyone I talked to who saw it!

Poignant and endearing but be warned: you will need kleenex! A movie not to be missed.
| 10/10 | understudy@ - first review 5.7.2001 - age: 36-49 |
Was not what I was expecting at all! From the previews and trailers I have seen, this movie was not what I expected. It was better then I thought it was going to be. And yes, Helen Hunt bugs me tremendously in this movie.
| 7/10 | sugarpie30ca@ - 2 reviews 14.6.2001 - age: 26-35 |
Haley Joel is really good. In some of the scenes, even Kevin Spacey looked amazed at his acting. The story is simple, but original.
| 8/10 | misio@ - 27 reviews 31.5.2001 - age: 26-35 |
I'm no dummy, and think myself actually pretty astute about what constitutes a good movie. I purposefully did NOT read any reviews about this movie before going to see it, and came out of the theatre loving it... For its kernel of the idea of 'paying it foward' (something that characterizes my own life), for the sensitive acting on the part of Kevin Spacey, whom I have never really paid attention to before this movie, and now think him an articulate, considered, sensitive and consumate actor. So, imagine my dismay when I got home to scope some reviews of the movie on the 'Net, only to find it was panned here, there and everywhere (well, at least not so much on THIS particular website)! Did I miss something? My only contention with the movie is that Helen Hunt (who I have NEVER liked anyway) was a bit over the top and ingenuous, and way too preoccupied with her body and looks in ANYTHING she does; she is always primping and taking sidelong glances in imaginary mirrors, to my way of thinking. I dunno. Maybe the movie IS a bit too gratuitously sentimental, but in a cold world full of electronic amusement, and violence and bad-deeds, how awful can THAT be?
| 7/10 | rosemary@ - 22 reviews 25.2.2001 - age: 36-49 |
This movie was one of the best movies that I have ever seen. Since I've seen the movie I have tried really hard to pay it forward, I didn't realize how hard it would be. It gives me great personal satisfaction to do something nice for other people, although they don't always appreciate it. I have 2 children, and I really hope that they may do something like this one day.

A very smart movie that hits upon many facets of our social conscience. Violence in schools, broken homes and physical abuse, alcoholism. Not only is it timely it made me believe that there is something worth fighting for and I highly recommend this to all ages.

Very good movie to see with your spouse or your best friend touching and KEVIN SPACEY is MARVELOUS so is HALEY and HELEN...

Wow... powerful film! Yes, a little predictable, but VERY moving and uplifting nonetheless. This one will hit you hard and make you think about some profound questions - and will make you want to "pay it forward" too. Once again Haley Joel Osment is fantastic. Overall definitely a film worth seeing!

Very moving... You may think it is predictable, but they throw you a couple of curves. See it before you hear too much about the specifics. Very good acting...

A bit disappointed. It only truly reach at the end of the movie.

This was an incredible movie. This little boy has a great vision of how the world should be. I definitly smell at least one Oscar for this movie. Kevin Spacey and Haley Joel Osmet deliver award winning performances. A definate must see for everybody.

Good movie, it drags on a bit at times, but worth seeing. Go with your girlfriend guys, she'll need some comforting towards the end of the film. A great time to pull some moves Agas.
| 7/10 | pozcanon@ - 26 reviews 23.11.2000 - age: 26-35 |
This is a good movie until the very end. I feel that the effect would have been just as dramtic if the film had a happy ending. I believe the idea was to make it believable but I found it tramatizing and unrealistic. Otherwise, the acting is awesome and Kevin Spacey NEEDS another Oscar.

Haley Joel Osment is really a good little actor. I liked him in this film. And can Kevin Spacey ever do wrong? As always, he's fabulous. Helen Hunt was really annoying. This was just another repeat of her Oscar-winning role, but this time she sucked big time. She overacted. Not at all convincing as a drunk. The premise of the story was quite interesting. Nice utopian concept. Alas, if only the real world was like that--someone does something nice for you & in return you do something nice for 3 other people, & each of the 3 do something nice for 3 other people, and so on, and so on, and so on. By having Haley Joel Osment's character die in the end while doing a good deed just cements the idea that when you doing something nice for someone, it turns around and bites you big time. This ending was cheesy & really spoiled the film. If they had used another actress instead of Helen Hunt & changed the ending, the film would have been much better. I must admit though, tears came to my eyes at the end.

WOW! What a wonderful idea for a movie. As an Elementary school teacher, I think this underlines a very important issue for society. Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osmond are absolutely INCREDIBLE in this movie! I definitely recommend this movie. A tear-jerker!

Not the best movie I've ever seen, especially the "hollywood" ending... gag me! Some good performances though, and a passable premise.

Will someone give Haley Joel Osment his Oscar already! He was robbed for "6th Sense", so maybe this will be the one. Bravo, Haley. Oh yeah, the other two actors were good too.

I thought the film is a brilliant idea! If everyone who sees this film does what it's about(doing favours for strangers, telling them to pay it forward) then I think "this world wouldn't be crap"... I do have to agree that the characters were a bit underdeveloped, but that would have made for a 3 hour film (which I wouldn't mind AT ALL! ) The only thing I'd change in this film would be the scene where Helen Hunt speaks with her mother. I would have a flash back explaining what her mother did that was so terrible! The scene the way it is in the film leaves the viewer confused. I remember thinking... This seems to be a sad scene, but I don't really know why? ... And her mother's comment after Helen Hunt said she was sorry : "I don't like your hair"... What the hell is that? I'm waiting for the DVD to see if they include any deleted scenes!

WATCH OUT! Acadamy award material here... Maybe a good oppurtunity for Haley Joel-Osment to catch up on the one he missed for "6th Sense". Give it a try... you should not be disappointed... as this movie is a lesson for all, ending included.

I had high hopes for this movie. Spacey and Hunt have been great - especially recently. So I was surprised - this movie made very little impact on me. And I've been known to snivle through the sad parts in the theaters. It left me more or less indifferent. Dissapointing. Call it a rental.

I see lots of movies, this one had an interesting story, a bit to hollywoodish, with that kind of story, it would have been great to know more the inside of those personalities.
