My favorite movie is American Beauty so I had high expectations for this one. I really loved this movie. It was what I expected it to be. I could really feel what the Kate Winslet character was going through even if I'm not married and I'm far from being in that kind of situation. I have to say that my girlfriends were very ambivalent about the movie and didn't enjoy it as much as I did. Some felt they could not relate to her because she lived in the 50's and that women now have what women were missing back then. Others just didn't understand what was the big problem with the couple. They thought that they were making a big deal over nothing. I cannot agree less with these comments because the whole story has nothing to do with women's rights or the fact that now women don't have to be housewives. It's a movie that will always be relevant because it's simply about people who feel that they missed out on their lifes and feel hopeless about it. It's probably what 90% of the population is feeling at a certain point... most of them just denie it and keep pretending... So basically this is not a movie that everyone will enjoy, but I really did.
