Great film and storyline, the actors are superb, and also thanks to the Star Sidney theatre for bringing this great one to our area first!!!

Competition and relationship problems between members of a closely knit group can be very real. The depiction of these events here appear to me to be trite. Philip Seymour Hoffman again displayed his acting chops and of course the music was fine. Kudos to the studios who were under a great deal of pressure to get people away from their TV sets and back into theatre for making great sound an integral and permanent part of their features.

A beautiful, lyrical movie... best of the year! A must-see.

An interesting film, providing insight into the strong emotions that come into play in the very intimate musical collaboration required in a string quartet. In my view, the acting was excellent, providing insight into the lives of top-flight musicians who are totally committed to excellence in their craft. But the plot had several unexplained disconnects and, in particular, I felt that the ending was contrived, which seriously detracted from what would otherwise have been a very good film.

Fine characterizations, lovely portrayal of quartet life, entertaining lively script. Moving in many ways. Unexpectedly good show.

Well put together, the actors must have practised playing string instruments, it looked really authentic. The plot was interesting good acting and editing. The only negative was the fact that the sound was a fraction too fast, the pix lagged behind which was really annoying at times.

Great story, great music, very powerful movie. Loved the actors; Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Christopher Walken great performers. Very realistic; it shows to have a great career you need to sacrifice a lot.

My high hopes of a detour from the usual Hollywood track of older men copulating with much younger women were very soon dashed. The attempt at symbolic script through metaphor was weak at best and the lack-lustre, soap-style story line failed to elevate this movie from the many other eminently forgettable films that pass for entertainment these days. The music was good but staying home with a good CD would be every bit as enjoyable, indeed preferable!

This movie would be a non hitter if it wasn't for the cast. Get out your Rollodex of plot twist and stitch them in with ok writing a voila , a not bad movie for straight people. Walken is great at plays it with grace and depth. Some stuff left me scratching my head but I won't say what. Hint would be the pairing Danny Devito with Barbara Hershey in Tin Men as a couple. Good distraction. That's about it.

I was hoping this movie would be more about the day to day lives of professional musicians. The movie showed some of this, but could have been a lot more. For example... traveling from city to city... what do they do with their expensive instruments on the airplane? What do they do in the hotel, where do they go practice? Who pays for the travel and accommodations? What about after a concert... do they celebrate, hang around backstage and meet important audience members?.. etc. etc. I learned very little.

Christopher Walken is amazing, as usual! I loved the stories, quite original.

I came to see this film with high expectations & left instead feeling very disappointed. Most of the scenes & dialogue played out like a "Soap Opera". The only saving grace was the high calibre acting of the ensemble cast, & the beautiful music.

PSH gives brilliant performance. Compelling look at expertise and interpersonal compromises made in pursuit of craft.

I am not much into Classical music. Especially violins only. This movie has taught me to enjoy and appreciate this type of music. A wonderful story. How to endure the same persons playing stringed instruments for 25 years with some of them feeling superior to the rest... Their last performance together tugged at my corazon...

It was a great caste and I wasn't disappointed. I thought the movie played out on a great many layers, especially if you know much about classical musicians and classical music. I think it is difficult for most of us to understand how powerful the music is, and how one's life can be sublimated to it. This movie does a good job of capturing a lot of that plus the agony of relationships bared and falling apart: and there are lots of them. Great acting by Walken, Keener and Hoffman.

With a quality cast, the movie was a disappointment. Excellent music, sense of quartet workings, but story line and related situations were neither believable, nor well presented... go only if interested in the music! A waste of such talent.

I went expecting a movie full of music and judging from the reviews it should have been, it was NOT. Though this was a big disappointment for me once I got into the story line it developed nicely. A very interesting film. If it is music you're after, stay for the credits.

An excellent non-Hollywood type of movie that looks at life, love, loss and friendships.

I enjoyed this movie! As for classical musician it was really pleasure, joy for me. Actors are great. Thank you so much!

The beautiful music was the only enjoyable part of the movie. Other than that, it was a bit boring despite the talented ensemble cast.
