I didn't think that one could be better than Jack Nicholson in impersonating the Joker, but I was wrong. This is the reason why it took me a few years to sit down and watch this movie. Well, it is my loss since I missed a master piece as a whole, not only the Joker, really a must see!

Heath Ledger really steals the show. I'd say this is the best superhero movie to date.

One of my favorite movies! Way better, in my opinion, than the dark knight rises. See it now if you have not already!!! Heath Ledger is fantastic in this.

The Dark Knight is one of those films that transcends its genre, more of an engaging and strangely poetic crime film than a superhero film. At the time, there was some speculation that it could possibly garner an Oscar nomination for Best Picture (however that was not to be) The biggest draw of the film, was obviously the late Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker, which won a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. His performance eclipsed that of his costars which included highly regarded actors including Oscar nominees Gary Oldman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Eric Roberts as well as Oscar winners Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, and Christian Bale. It is important to acknowledge that Aaron Eckhart also turns in a fine performance as Harvey Dent/Two Face, perhaps the second strongest performance of the film. Ledger's Joker is so captivating that it becomes his film, so much so that the first thing that comes to mind when one refers to the Dark Knight, his portrayal is the first thing to come to mind. In fact, the sequel to this film, the acclaimed The Dark Knight Rises' is often regarded as the weaker film because of the absence of a performance that rivals Ledger's. Still, Nolan's Batman trilogy is one of the best and many would argue that The Dark Knight is the centerpiece.

The Dark Knight is the second movie of Nolan’s Batman trilogy. In this movie, the Batman meets his intellectual match, the Joker. The Joker is a complex character and he is very well played by Heath Ledger (popularized by “Brokeback Mountain”) The Dark Knight is a marriage of light and dark, it shows that darkness can take over the lightest human only by turning off the switch. Nolan creates a very dark movie, yet very pleasant to see on screen. The soundtrack is very similar to the first movie and as enjoyable. The special effects weren’t overpowering the movie, when they did show up, they were absolutely well executed. The screenplay is amazing once again. I love Nolan’s works and I think this movie needs to be watched.

It's a shame that Heath Ledger (RIP) never got to see himself on the big screen. I'm sure he would have been as impressed as we all were.

Nolan needs to complete his work by making the rest of the batman movies as well. He is the only Batman director so far that knows what he is doing.

Very entertaining very cool and very epic. This is the way Batman should be. Also this film is ideal for blue ray.

Nolan continues to bring so much in another epic to the table. Yes this can be a bit dreary alike Batman begins caused by overpaced direction, The Dark Knight is a step up becoming a strong crime film. The Joker runs the show, Heath Ledger plays the best villain of all time leading a story of great threat and exciting adventure.

The only problem with "The Dark Knight" is Christopher Nolan packs so much brilliance into it that there's almost too much brilliance to handle. It's not really a problem, but more of a flaw, and flaw that almost all of Nolan films have. A little too much was fired into "The Dark Knight," but come on. This is near perfect filmmaking. The vision Heath Ledger brings to the joker is legendary, and the storytelling is unbelievable. For two hours and thirty minutes, you have to be ready to watch probably the biggest scale superhero film of our time because it's a non-stop roller coaster that never stalls. You can't just watch a bit of it, you have to be prepared to watch the hardcore intensity of "The Dark Knight" because this is a full throttle ride from start to finish. It is definitely the most intense thriller I have ever seen, and could be one of the best thrillers I have ever seen along with that. It is the full package for an ultimate summer flick, and it delivers on all levels imaginable.

I give The Dark Knight a 9.5. The Dark Knight was dark, loud, action packed, humourous and is my favourite hero/villain movie of all time. The joker's performance in the movie is ounstanding. He was creepy, violent, yet violently funny. It was hugely enjoyable to watch him steel every scene he was in. Overall, The Dark Knight is hugely enjoyable and is my favourite movie of 2008.

Heath Ledger was born to play this role. This movie is worth seeing just for his performance alone. I've seen it several times, I own it, and I'll be one of the first in line to get tickets if they bring it back to IMAX.

This movie is an action masterpiece! No matter how many times I’ve seen it I still get goosebumps. Wonderful acting by Heath and cast; great directing by Nolan, and a great story from start to finish.

THE DARK KNIGHT is THE GODFATHER of comic book movies with deeply nuanced performances for the Joker and Two Face Dent. The opening set-piece of the bank robbery reminded me of that great set-piece in Michael Mann's bank robbery in HEAT. There's also strong references to THE UNTOUCHABLES. Harvey Dent can be seen as a more complicated Elliot Ness and the Chinese accountant is a parallel to the accountant who can bring down Al Capone in THE UNTOUCHABLES. Jack Nicholson was a good Joker but was too old for the part. Heath Ledger will always be the definitive Joker who cares nothing but a world of anarchy. The brutality of the film is dark and violent which is the way I like it. Nolan is on a level of filmmaking all to himself and I'm desperatly looking forward to his upcoming sci-fi braintwister INCEPTION. Looking forward to see what Kenneth Branagh will do with my all-time favourite superhero THOR.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
«Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was... a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn't like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. Turns to me and he says "Why so serious? " Comes at me with the knife," Why so serious? " He sticks the blade in my mouth. "Let's put a smile on that face!" And... Why so serious? » it's not easy to find the proper words to describe a film like The Dark Knight. The sequel to Batman Begins transcends the superhero genre and director Christopher Nolan makes the Batman universe his very own. Its no longer a comic book movie, it's a serious and realistic drama with strong themes. The Dark Knight is The Godfather Part 2 of superhero sequels, it works on many levels and makes the first movie better. It's a fun summer for sure, entertaining from beginning to end but its also a psychological drama which tackles social and political issues. Some dialogues arent subtle but very much needed to defuse some of the complexity surrounding the plot and make sure the entire audience gets the point the filmmaker is attempting to make. The new Batman movie fails in no point, getting that much closer to perfection, and becomes one of the most satisfying movie experience of the decade. The film takes off exactly where the first movie ended. Bruce Wayne's mansion is being rebuilt and in the meantime, the billionaire lives in a luxury loft in the middle of Gotham. The city is more corrupted than ever but the new District Attorney, Harvey Dent, intents to clean up the street, inspired by the work of Batman. There is a new villain in town, a psychotic motiveless bank robber and killer who find it amusing to call himself «The Joker», because of all that make up he wears. He is all about self-destruction and chaos, as if it was art, bringing misery to whoever crosses his path, doing it for his very own pleasure. His arrival turns the city upside down and Batman is soon pointed as responsible for attracting such a freak, making Bruce Wayne reconsider his role as the icon that was supposed to give hope to people. With the help of Jim Gordon and Harvey Dent, the masked avenger will have to catch the freak before he catches him, which might cost Batman much and see a new villain rise. «You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. » The complexity of The Dark Knight lies between the characters' believes and morality but also in the use of realistic elements. Batman doesnt have any superpower, only his human strength and intellect, its also very true for the bad guys, which are a little more than ordinary criminals, some are smarter, or madder than others, simply put in extraordinary situations. This sequel is a strong crime drama rising many questions. Its masterfully crafted, every single details of the screenplay is important, and for that reason, the writing skills of the Nolan brothers - director Christopher Nolan wrote it with his brother Jonathan - become the real star of The Dark Knight. «Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a dark knight. » Christian Bale is Batman for a second round, giving yet another strong and layered performance, playing to perfection the duality between his two persona. Aaron Eckhart proves to be perfectly cast as the new D. A. Harvey Dent, almost stealing the show, probably because of the importance and complexity of his character. He gives the most impressive performance of the film, despite being quieter than «The Joker». He is the core of the film in some way, an absolutely engaging performance that goes beyond spectacle. Eckart may be impressive but Heath Ledger IS «The Joker», with one of the most memorable performance in recent cinematic history. He plays a character with no known background, giving him the opportunity to build a complex character nonetheless. From his choice of changing the tone of his voice to his sinister laugh and his swallowing of the blood that keeps flowing from his cheeks - which he probably purposely bites to taste his own blood - Ledger gives fascinating subtleties and details to his character and becomes as creepy and as psychotic as he should be. It's a strong performance worthy of many Awards when the season comes. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman reprise their roles from the original movie, all doing solid work. The movie Gods love us, Katie Holmes is nowhere to be found, replaced by a much better actress, Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is more convincing and seems to suit the role perfectly from her first presence on screen. Lets note the more-than-a-cameo role of Eric Roberts, coming back from the dead to appear in his first quality movie since the 80's. The Dark Knight was a film for which people had high expectations, and Heath Ledger's premature death earlier this year, made it a film everybody wanted to see at any cost and for once it delivered completely, and probably more than anyone could expect. It is masterfully done on every single level, telling a compelling story, becoming a near masterpiece and most likely the best film of this year. Its so much more than just another superhero movie, it's a real drama, it is very cynical, has high ambitions and big ideas, great acting and storytelling skills. A powerful and quality entertainment that will rarely be equaled.

The last batman film was a huge step up from the last series. This one is also up to the task. Grteat special effects, clever charactors and good story line. Not a comic book fan? That's ok you will STILL enjoy this film.

Wonderful re-make of the Batman story. Well written, well cast, well acted. Christian Bale is perfect as Bruce Wayne, Heath Ledger is great as the Joker, as well as Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman putting in strong supporting roles. Main thing though was the story, it moved along well and always entertained.

An epic and legendary edition to the Superhero genre that shows a darkness and evil that was never shown in the original Joker portrayed by Jack Nicholson Heath Ledger I guess you could say it was the film he died to make though that's putting it rather grimly oh well in some respects or opinions I have thought that had Heath Ledger not died the may not have been as epic however it is still a great movie to watch but beware this movie is infamous for growing darker with each passing second.

A must see - no doubt! I love the movie, it maybe the first Batman movie that takes it beyond a fairy tale. Acting, stenography, script, costumes - everything is great! Evil is very real, very near... I think it goes deep in our mind and tells scary things about ourselves - how elaborate we are in hiding our thoughts. Of course Batman's main battle is his own story - personal drama: lost parents, lost love... who will cover? How? Little things like Christian's Bale transformed voice sounding annoyingly dull, Batman girl not being really pretty (sorry if I offend any fans), the whole love story not really well developed can be easily forgotten. Go and see!
