X-Men: First Class is by no means one of the best films of the year, but it does raise the bar on comic-book films. The film demonstrates that it isn’t just about action scenes and cool special effects, there has to be a real emotional arc and human story present as well. While the film has a terrible portrayal of women, the men do get to shine. Michael Fassbender is, of course, the standout and is the only reason why I would watch this again. All in all X-Men: First Class is cornier and not as great as expected, but it is still a solid and entertaining film.
