An absolutely wonderfully written dramatic comedy which is witty, funny and reveals a great deal of human nature. Clive Owen teaches Honours English and Juliette Binoche is hired to teach a class in Honours Art. So the proverbial question remains: " What is more important, the concept of WORDS or of ART? " The chemistry between Owen and Binoche is present in spades as they go about their regular school duties. The paintings in the movie have been done by Juliette Binoche herself who is a painter aside from being a great actor. Veteran director Fred Schepisi really makes this superb film work. One of the best romantic comedies and one in which we learn a great deal about the English Language and Fine Art Painting. By the way, the students of the school are played terrifically.
