Without a Paddle

I just came back from viewing the première of "Without a Paddle" and had a good time. Yes it's the type of movie where the brain is not necessary before entering the theater and that honestly after a hard day at work... was fine by me. Matthew Lillard, Seth Green and Dax Shepard are all great and more importantly they all bring something to the movie. It's the rare case where every character puts in his grain of salt and become all lovable. Unfortunately, without even seeing the movie you can tell what the actors will do. For example, we all know Seth Green won't be a super hero (even though that could make for an interesting concept) He always played the coward and yet again this movie does not change the formula. I believe if you were able to enjoy Anchorman, you will be able to enjoy Without a Paddle. Without a Paddle is a cross between Anchorman and the American Pie trilogy. It uses quirky fast remarks during the movie (à la Anchorman) while always keeping the appeal of being disgusting to be funny (à la American Pie) Yes this movie has a sense of déjà vu, and enjoyed it even more since it was free... but in the end if you are a group of friends trying to pick out a movie to try to please everyone, Without a Paddle is definitely an underdog in the category but also it might be able to appeal to the most genres at the same time. Burt Reynolds has a small part in the movie, which is interesting. We haven't seen him for awhile and it's good to see him back in the big screen and able to make people laugh. Also viewers might notice Ethan Suplee (one of the actors I like very much, Kevin Smith fans will recognize him once again playing a big man that happens to be slow) A light comedy to be seen on a cheap night.
