I was unsure what to give this movie. I was split between a 6/10 and a 7/10. I finally settled on a 7/10 because it is a good movie. Is it worth seeing? Yes. In theaters? Not sure about that. At full price? Even less sure. SPOILER ALERT (sorry, but some of my criticisms need to be detailed) I initially didn't want to see this movie as I thought the trailer showed too much of the actual movie. But I was wrong. I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Diane Lane, who is one of my favorite actresses to watch on the big screen, delivers a good performance. The story is good, but it's some very specific story elements that annoyed me a lot. 1- She is an FBI special agent on internet/web crimes, and yet her home computer is unprotected to the point where her little girl can install a computer game that contained a trojan program... and the bad guy got to see all her files... a) an FBI special agent in charge of internet crimes would just not store her personal files on a hard drive that could be accessible by hackers, and she sure as heck wouldn't allow downloads on her home computer... let alone allow her little 8 year old girl to play on the very same computer on which she views very bad work web sites. Writers: do you homework and be realistic. 2- She's an FBI special agent, living with her 8 year old girl and her mother (her husband dies on duty), and she always has her blinds wide open, day and night, and clearly does not lock her house doors when she comes in, daytime or nighttime. She knows the evil that lurks out there, and yet she is that irresponsible. Writers: be realistic! 3- Her SUV gets hacked into on the bridge. The bad guy shuts it down and talked to her over the OnStar system. She had to break out of it by breaking the window. She calls for help on the bridge phone. After she hands up, her SUV is no longer shut down. So what does the FBI special Agent do? She goes into it. YA RIGHT! And she doesn't thoroughly check the back seat. Writers: Come on people! And I stop right there. Three clear examples of unrealistic storyline elements, and these things need to be solid in such a movie. It has to be realistic. All in all, I still decided to give it a 7/10, as I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. My initial worries that I had seen the entire story in the trailer was wrong. The ending could have been different though. It's your typical "bad guy thinks of everything along to way to avoid getting caught, but is dumb in going his final and ultimate victim". Been there, seen that too many times. I will stop my review before I convince myself to give it a 6!!!
