First off this is utterly a guy movie. Fart jokes, war games, bad martial arts scenes (yes I know it's a spoof) The only women I saw in the movie at all were bikini-clad and wriggling as beer (? ) was poured over them. That said, it did have some very funny moments, and the premise made for funny situations. Tom Cruise did a fantastic job of playing a crazy rich white guy (surprise) Robert Downey Jr wasn't as offensive as I thought he would be playing a white guy playing a Black guy. Not to say there weren't offensive moments, it just wasn't as bad as it could have been, and there was a constant awareness within the movie of the controversy. Jack Black was the same as always. Ben Stiller was a perfect doofus. I kept wishing they'd cast Owen Wilson instead of Matthew McConaughey, but McC did an alright job playing a typical OW character. Overall good for a few laughs, definitely not worth the theatre price, if you're in the mood for *very* light comedy and don't mind the politically incorrect, this will do for an evening's mindless entertainment. Sounds like a harsh review but I actually was in that kind of mood when I watched it and so it was perfect.
