I generally consider director Joel Schumacher a pretty inferior/mediocre director in most of the movies he has made... a classic case would be PHANTOM OF THE OPERA which was an unmitigated disaster. In this film he does not handle Nicholas Cage and Nicole Kidman in the best of manner which results in their having no screen presence whatever, either as individuals or as a pair... the chemistry is non-existent. Add to this that the movie is running at hundreds of miles per hour throughout its length and one gets an unsatisfying film impossible to derive much of anything. If I'm being too harsh on the film, I will say there are a few moments of general alchemy and genuine emotions but on the whole the film is a dud.
