The acting is great, the cinematography is spot-on, and the score is highly effective. However, I didn't become involved in the film, didn't really care what happened to the characters, and never felt an ounce of excitement (anxiety, sorrow, anger, surprise, joy-- nothing) It's an interminable movie during which not much happens and no one's character evolves. Day-Lewis' marvellous talent alone cannot make this film worthwhile, even if there are a few laugh-out-loud instances of black humour peppered throughout the script, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
