    The Year of Living Dangerously

A brilliant, clever film from Peter Weir who really has to be congratulated on the excellence of depth he provided as director. It's a marvelous Australian film that deals with the horrific situation happening in several areas connected by the war in Vietnam. I don't like Mel Gibson, but he was terrific in this serious, sweeping drama as was the talented Sigourney Weaver. However, it was LINDA HUNT playing a man and journalist pal of Gibson who took many honours that year including a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in a year most expected CHER to win for SILKWOOD! I'm not much into war films, but this one really should be seen. It has you on tenderhooks through most of the film!
