A terrific blend of action, drama, comedy and adventure. Like Tom Hanks in “Cast Away”, Matt Damon was likeable as a resourceful science whiz in discovering new ways to survive on the red planet. Rather than just presenting the audience with special-effects for a couple hours, director Ridley Scott made an effort to explore the dilemmas that might result from an astronaut actually being stranded on Mars. Science might be a boring subject but they manage to make it into an exciting, hopeful story about humanity at its best.
