I cannot understand people giving 3 or 4 to this movie! There was some very nice character-ization, especially between the hobbits & Gollum. Visually it was marvelous. But more importantly Jackson has succeeded it bringning Middle-Earth back to life a second time. And there was an oppressive atmosphere throughout that was very effective. There was also flaws... unnecessary additions. And the play of some actors was wooden (Wood who seem capable of only one expression!) or overused (Gimli as a comic sidekick) But to say that this movie was "not good, even if you dont pay" - that's what a 4 means - is absolute trash! The openinc scene was worth the price alone. I can only surmise that the poor notes were from purists. Pfff... don't listen to overgrown children incapable of detachment - the movie is certainly worth seeing. G.
